Objective
The objective varies depending on the scenario. Typically, players must explore the mansion, gather clues, solve puzzles, and defeat monsters to uncover the story and achieve the mission goals.
Components
Game Board Tiles: Modular map tiles that create the mansion.
Investigator Miniatures: Represent player characters.
Monster Miniatures: Represent various monsters.
Investigator Cards: Detail each investigator's abilities, health, and sanity.
Monster Cards: Detail the stats and abilities of monsters.
Item Cards: Represent equipment and clues found during the game.
Spell Cards: Represent magical abilities.
Damage and Horror Cards: Represent physical and mental harm.
Clue Tokens: Used to represent clues and objectives.
Dice: Used to determine the outcomes of actions and combat.
Scenario Guide: Provides setup and rules for each scenario.
App: The game requires a digital app to run the scenarios and control the game flow.
Setup
Select a Scenario: Choose a scenario from the app.
Set Up Map Tiles: Follow the scenario setup instructions in the app to place initial map tiles.
Choose Investigators: Each player selects an investigator and takes the corresponding miniature, investigator card, and starting items.
Set Up Tokens: Place clue, damage, horror, and other tokens as instructed by the scenario.
Start the App: Launch the app and follow its instructions for starting the scenario.
Gameplay
The game is played in a series of rounds, with each round consisting of investigator phases and mythos phases.
Investigator Phase
Actions: Each investigator can perform up to two actions. Possible actions include:
Move: Move up to two spaces.
Explore: Investigate a room or object.
Interact: Use an item or interact with a game element.
Attack: Fight a monster.
Trade: Exchange items with another investigator in the same space.
Use a Spell: Cast a spell if available.
Resolve Effects: Resolve any effects or consequences of the investigator's actions.
Mythos Phase
Events: The app triggers events, including monster activations, environmental changes, and narrative developments.
Monster Attacks: Monsters attack investigators according to the instructions provided by the app.
Resolve Damage and Horror: Investigators resolve any damage or horror inflicted by monsters or events.
Combat
Attacking: To attack a monster, an investigator rolls dice and compares the results to their weapon or spell's requirements.
Defending: When a monster attacks, the app determines the attack's effects, and the investigator rolls to avoid or mitigate damage and horror.
Clues and Puzzles
Gathering Clues: Investigators gather clues by exploring rooms and interacting with objects.
Solving Puzzles: The app may present puzzles that investigators must solve to progress in the scenario.
End of Game
Victory: Achieved by meeting the scenario's objectives as outlined in the app.
Defeat: Occurs if investigators fail to meet objectives, all investigators are defeated, or specific conditions in the scenario are met.
Tips and Strategies
Teamwork: Coordinate actions and share information to make the best use of each investigator's abilities.
Resource Management: Manage items, spells, and health carefully.
Adaptability: Be prepared to adjust your strategy based on new information and events triggered by the app.
