Objective:
To defeat the villain by reducing their health to zero while managing the challenges presented by the villain and the environment.
Setup:
Players: 2-5 players.
Villain Setup:
Select a Villain and place the villain card in the center of the play area.
Set the villain's health as indicated on their card. Each villain card also has a Villain Deck which will be shuffled and placed face down.
Environment Setup:
Select an Environment card and place it in the play area. Each environment card has its own deck, which should be shuffled and placed face down.
Hero Setup:
Each player chooses a Hero character and takes their corresponding Hero Deck, Hero Card, and Hero Play Area.
Shuffle the Hero Deck and draw an opening hand of cards (typically five, but this may vary based on character abilities or game setup).
Villain and Environment Effects:
Place any tokens or markers that will be used for tracking effects or damage.
Player Order:
Determine the order of play, typically determined randomly or by any agreed-upon method.
Example Setup:
Villain: Baron Blade.
Environment: Insula Primalis.
Heroes: Legacy, Tachyon, and The Wraith.
Gameplay:
The game is played in a series of rounds, with each round consisting of the following phases:
Hero Phase:
Play a Card: Each hero player can play one card from their hand. Cards can be ongoing effects, one-time abilities, or equipment.
Use a Power: Each hero can use one power as described on their hero card or from played cards.
Draw a Card: At the end of their turn, the hero draws a card from their hero deck.
Villain Phase:
Play a Card: Draw and resolve a card from the villain deck. Villain cards typically include attacks, minions, or environmental hazards.
Villain Attack: The villain or their minions may attack heroes or other targets based on the effects of the villain card.
Villain Effects: Resolve any additional effects from the villain card, such as special abilities or conditions.
Environment Phase:
Play a Card: Draw and resolve a card from the environment deck. Environment cards often represent challenges or conditions that affect all players.
Winning and Losing:
Victory: The heroes win the game by reducing the villain’s health to zero. Some scenarios may include additional victory conditions specified in the villain's instructions.
Defeat: The heroes lose if all hero characters are incapacitated (reduced to zero health) or if other specific defeat conditions outlined in the villain’s scenario are met.
Tips for Playing:
Coordinate Actions: Communicate with your fellow players to optimize your actions and powers for maximum effectiveness.
Manage Resources: Keep track of your hero's health, resources, and ongoing effects to avoid being overwhelmed.
Plan for Villain Cards: Anticipate the effects of upcoming villain cards and plan your strategy accordingly.
