Setup:

  1. Players: 2-5 players.

  2. Villain Setup:

    • Select a Villain and place the villain card in the center of the play area.

    • Set the villain's health as indicated on their card. Each villain card also has a Villain Deck which will be shuffled and placed face down.

  3. Environment Setup:

    • Select an Environment card and place it in the play area. Each environment card has its own deck, which should be shuffled and placed face down.

  4. Hero Setup:

    • Each player chooses a Hero character and takes their corresponding Hero Deck, Hero Card, and Hero Play Area.

    • Shuffle the Hero Deck and draw an opening hand of cards (typically five, but this may vary based on character abilities or game setup).

  5. Villain and Environment Effects:

    • Place any tokens or markers that will be used for tracking effects or damage.

  2. Environment: Insula Primalis.

Gameplay:

The game is played in a series of rounds, with each round consisting of the following phases:

  1. Hero Phase:

    • Play a Card: Each hero player can play one card from their hand. Cards can be ongoing effects, one-time abilities, or equipment.

    • Use a Power: Each hero can use one power as described on their hero card or from played cards.

    • Draw a Card: At the end of their turn, the hero draws a card from their hero deck.

  2. Villain Phase:

    • Play a Card: Draw and resolve a card from the villain deck. Villain cards typically include attacks, minions, or environmental hazards.

    • Villain Attack: The villain or their minions may attack heroes or other targets based on the effects of the villain card.

    • Villain Effects: Resolve any additional effects from the villain card, such as special abilities or conditions.

  3. Environment Phase:

    • Play a Card: Draw and resolve a card from the environment deck. Environment cards often represent challenges or conditions that affect all players.

Winning and Losing:

  • Victory: The heroes win the game by reducing the villain’s health to zero. Some scenarios may include additional victory conditions specified in the villain's instructions.

  • Defeat: The heroes lose if all hero characters are incapacitated (reduced to zero health) or if other specific defeat conditions outlined in the villain’s scenario are met.

Tips for Playing:

  • Coordinate Actions: Communicate with your fellow players to optimize your actions and powers for maximum effectiveness.

  • Manage Resources: Keep track of your hero's health, resources, and ongoing effects to avoid being overwhelmed.

  • Plan for Villain Cards: Anticipate the effects of upcoming villain cards and plan your strategy accordingly.
