Official Freedom of Speech Rules
Freedom of Speech is a card game that blends humor and strategy, challenging players to express themselves while navigating the complexities of communication. Here’s how to play:
Objective
The goal of the game is to earn the most points by creatively interpreting and responding to prompts, using your cards to influence the conversation and win rounds.
Setup
Shuffle the Decks: Shuffle the Prompt Cards and Response Cards separately.
Deal Cards:Each player is dealt a hand of Response Cards (number varies based on the number of players).
Place the Prompt Cards in a draw pile in the center.Prepare the Play Area: Ensure there is space for players to place their cards and vote.
Components
Prompt Cards: Cards that feature various prompts or scenarios for players to respond to.
Response Cards: Cards with statements or phrases that players use to respond to the prompts.
Vote Cards: Used to vote for the best response.
Scorepad: Optional, for tracking points.
Gameplay
Starting the Game: Determine the starting player either randomly or by a chosen method.
Drawing Prompts:
On their turn, the current player (the “Judge”) draws a Prompt Card and reads it aloud to the group.
Submitting Responses:
Each player selects one Response Card from their hand that they feel best fits the prompt and submits it face down.
The Judge shuffles the submitted Response Cards and reads them aloud, without revealing the card owners.
Voting:
After all responses have been read, players use their Vote Cards to vote for the response they think is the best or most fitting.
Players cannot vote for their own response.
Scoring:
The Judge tallies the votes and awards points to the player whose response received the most votes.
The Judge then draws a new Prompt Card, and the role of Judge rotates to the next player.
Rules
Hand Limit: Players maintain a hand limit for Response Cards (typically 5-7 cards).
Card Play: Players may only use one Response Card per round.
Judge Role: The Judge role rotates each turn, ensuring everyone has a chance to lead the game.
Winning the Game
The game continues for a set number of rounds or until a predetermined score is reached.
The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Notes/Variations
Timed Rounds: Set a timer for each round to increase the game’s pace.
Themed Rounds: Introduce themes or special rules for certain rounds to add variety.
Team Play: Form teams and work together to come up with responses and vote.
