Official Yaniv (Jhyap/Dhumbal) Rules
Yaniv, also known as Dhumbal or Jhyap, is a fast-paced and strategic card game where the goal is to discard all your cards first. Here's a breakdown of the rules:
Objective
Be the first player to discard all your cards in your hand.
2-5 Players
Setup
1. Shuffle the deck well.
2. Deal all the cards face down to each player, one at a time. Some players might end up with one more card than others due to uneven dealing.
Gameplay
Playing a Turn:
On your turn, you have two options:
Discard a Card: Play one card face up to the discard pile in the center.
Following Suit (Optional): If the top card on the discard pile establishes a suit (e.g., Spades from another player's discard), you can try to play a card of the same suit from your hand.
Play Any Card: If you cannot or don't want to follow suit, you can play any card from your hand. This ends your turn and establishes a new leading suit for the next player.
Draw a Card (Optional): If you cannot or don't want to discard a card from your hand, you can choose to draw one card from the remaining deck and add it to your hand. This ends your turn.
Winning the Round:
The first player to discard all their cards wins the round!
Scoring:
This is typically played for fun, but you can also keep score for a more competitive game. Here's one way to score:
Losing Player: The player who remains with cards at the end of the round scores penalty points equal to the sum of the remaining card values in their hand.
Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) - 10 points each
Aces - 1 point each
Number cards - Face value (e.g., 7 = 7 points)
Winner: The winner of the round scores 0 points.
Winning the Game
The game can continue for multiple rounds. You can either play until a certain player reaches a predetermined score threshold (e.g., 100 points) or simply play for a set number of rounds.
Notes/Variations
Some variations allow players to discard multiple cards of the same rank at once, as long as the top card on the discard pile is the same rank or lower.
There might be slight variations in scoring rules depending on the region or who you play with.
Yaniv is a simple yet engaging game that offers a balance of luck and strategy. Have fun playing!
