Slammo is a fun, active, and competitive outdoor game similar to Spikeball. It involves hitting a ball onto a net, aiming to make it difficult for the opposing team to return. Here are the detailed rules for playing Slammo:
Objective:
The objective of Slammo is to hit the ball off the net in such a way that the opposing team cannot successfully return it. The first team to reach 21 points wins.
Components:
Slammo net: A circular net attached to a frame with legs.
Slammo ball: A small, rubber ball (similar to a Spikeball).
4 players: Two teams of two players each.
Setup:
Assemble the Net: Set up the Slammo net on a flat surface, ensuring the tension is even all around the net.
Position the Players:
Teams start on opposite sides of the net.
Each team should decide on a service order.
Gameplay:
Serving:
The game starts with a serve. The server must stand at least 6 feet away from the net.
The serve is made by tossing the ball up and hitting it down onto the net so it ricochets up at the opposing team.
The opposing team must return the serve with up to three alternating touches (similar to volleyball).
Returning the Ball:
Teams have up to three touches to return the ball to the net.
Players can hit the ball with any part of their body, but consecutive hits by the same player are not allowed.
The ball must be hit off the net with each touch; it cannot be caught or thrown.
Rallies:
The rally continues as each team alternates hitting the ball off the net.
Players can move freely around the net during play.
The rally ends and a point is scored if:
The ball hits the ground.
The ball hits the rim of the net.
The ball bounces twice on the net.
The ball hits the net but does not bounce up (a pocket or roll-up).
The ball contacts any part of the server's body before hitting the net.
Scoring:
Games are typically played to 21 points, with the winning team needing to win by at least 2 points.
Points can be scored by either team, regardless of who served.
Winning the Game:
The first team to reach 21 points with at least a 2-point lead wins the game.
Additional Rules:
Service Rotation: After each point, the serve rotates to the opposing team.
Hinder Rule: If a player’s movement is hindered by the opposing team, the point is replayed.
No Carrying: The ball cannot be caught or carried; it must be cleanly hit.
Hits and Touches: All hits must be clean rebounds; double hits by the same player are not allowed.
Boundaries: There are no out-of-bounds in Slammo; players can move anywhere to return the ball.
Strategy:
Placement: Aim for difficult spots on the net to make it harder for the opposing team to return the ball.
Team Coordination: Communicate with your teammate to ensure effective returns and strategic plays.
Anticipation: Anticipate the opponent’s moves to position yourself for effective returns.
