Official "Deluxe Pit" by Winning Moves Games Rules
Deluxe Pit by Winning Moves Games is a fun and energetic card game all about acquiring commodities through strategic trading. Here's a breakdown of the rules:
Players and Objective
Number of Players:
Deluxe Pit can be enjoyed by 3 to 8 players, making it perfect for lively gatherings.
What you'll need:
Deck of 74 cards (one Deluxe Pit deck) containing eight suits of nine cards each, a Bull card, and a Bear card.
Silver-toned trading bell (included in the Deluxe Pit game)
Score sheet (optional, but recommended)
Objective:
The goal of Deluxe Pit is to be the first player to acquire a complete set of nine cards from any one suit (called "cornering the market"). Players earn points based on the commodity they corner, and the player with the highest score at the end wins the game.
Setup
1. Place the Bell: Put the silver-toned trading bell in the center of the playing area. This bell signifies the buying and selling frenzy!
2. Prepare a Score Sheet: If using a score sheet, create a space for each player to track their points.
3. Select a Dealer: Choose a dealer to start the game (randomly or by specific rules).
Gameplay
Deluxe Pit is a fast-paced game with minimal setup. Here's how a round unfolds:
Dealing the Cards: The dealer shuffles the deck thoroughly and deals a specific number of cards face down to each player depending on the number of players:
3 Players: Each player receives nine cards.
4-7 Players: Each player receives eight cards.
8 Players: Each player receives seven cards.
Discard the Remaining Cards: The dealer removes any remaining cards from the deck and places them face down out of play for the rest of the game.
Trading Phase:
This is the exciting core of Deluxe Pit. There are no turns; all players participate simultaneously.
Bid and Barter: Players can immediately start calling out the commodities (suit names) they want to buy or trade.
Holding Up Cards: If you have a card (commodity) someone is asking for, you can hold it up for them to see, indicating you're willing to trade.
Negotiation (Optional): You can negotiate trades with other players, offering them different cards in exchange for the commodity you desire.
Cornering the Market:
The key moment comes when:
A Player Has All Nine of a Suit: If a player manages to collect all nine cards of a specific commodity (suit) through trading, they must immediately:
Ring the Bell: Slam the silver-toned trading bell loudly to signal they've cornered the market.
Announce the Corner: Declare the name of the commodity (suit) they've cornered (e.g., "Corner on Corn!").
End of the Round:
Once the bell is rung:
Trading Stops: All trading immediately ceases.
Scoring: The player who cornered the market scores points based on the commodity they acquired. Consult the game instructions or the markings on the cards themselves to determine the point value for each commodity.
Example: "Corn" might be worth 75 points, while "Wheat" might be worth 100 points.
Reshuffling and Dealing: The player who cornered the market shuffles the entire deck, including the discarded pile (if any), and deals a new hand of cards following the same dealing rules based on the player count.
Winning the Game
The game continues with players cornering different markets and scoring points. The first player to reach a predetermined score (usually 500 points) wins the game! For a shorter game, you can agree on a lower score limit (e.g., 250 points).
Notes/Variations
The fast-paced, simultaneous trading creates a chaotic and exciting atmosphere. Be quick on your feet and negotiate effectively to acquire the commodities you need.
The Deluxe Pit version includes a silver-toned trading bell, adding a dramatic element to the game.
You can keep track of scores on a piece of paper or use a dedicated score sheet if available.
Deluxe Pit is an energetic and exciting game that captures the thrill of commodity trading. It's perfect for family gatherings, parties, and game nights, offering a blend of strategy, speed, and a bit of luck.
