Official Splurt Rules
Splurt is a fast-paced and lively word game where players race to shout out words that fit a given category. Here are the detailed rules for playing Splurt:
Equipment
Deck of Splurt! cards (contains category cards and letter/position cards)
Setup
1. Select Categories: Choose a set number of category cards to use for the game, depending on the desired length of play.
2. Set Up Timer: Determine the duration of each round and set the timer accordingly.
3. Determine Starting Player: Decide who will start the game. This can be done by any agreed-upon method, such as flipping a coin or rolling a die.
Gameplay
Starting the Round:
The starting player flips over the top card from the Splurt deck to reveal the category and letter.
Word Shouting:
Players race to shout out words that fit the category and start with the specified letter.
Only valid words that match the category and letter are accepted.
Setting a Time Limit:
Use a timer to set a time limit for each round, such as 30 seconds or 1 minute.
Players must shout out words within the time limit.
Scoring:
Players earn points for each valid word they shout out within the time limit.
The player who shouts out the most words scores the most points for that round.
Checking Validity:
After the time limit expires, review the words shouted out by each player to ensure they meet the category and letter criteria.
Disqualify any invalid words.
Starting a New Round:
The player to the left of the starting player becomes the new starting player for the next round.
Repeat the process with a new card from the Splurt deck.
Winning the Game
Continue playing rounds until all players have had an equal number of turns as the starting player.
The player with the highest total score at the end of the game wins.
Notes/Variations
Team Play:
Divide players into teams and have them compete against each other.
Teams take turns shouting out words, and the team with the most valid words earns points for that round.
Category Customization:
Customize the categories to suit the preferences and interests of the players.
Create themed rounds or include specific topics for added variety.
