Official Avocado Smash Rules
Ridley's Avocado Smash! is a quick and exciting card game that combines classic elements of snap with a delicious avocado twist. Here's a breakdown of the rules to get your guacamole game on:
Objective
The goal of Avocado Smash! is to be the first player to collect the most points by successfully matching avocados and avoiding pitfalls.
Setup
1. Shuffle the Deck: Thoroughly shuffle the deck of avocado cards.
2. Deal the Cards: Deal an equal number of cards face down to each player. The remaining deck is placed face down in the center of the playing area as the draw pile.
Gameplay
The game is played in rounds, with players taking turns in clockwise order. Here's what happens on your turn:
Play a Card: Reveal the top card from your hand and place it face up in the center of the table.
Counting Avocados: As you play your card, announce the number of avocados displayed on the card you played, regardless of the actual number on the card itself.
Spot a Match? SMASH!
There are two ways to trigger a smash:
Number Match: All players watch the center pile for a card with the number you announced matching the number of avocados on any card in the center pile.
Image Match (Optional): Some versions include bonus cards with special effects. If you play a card with the same avocado image as the top card in the discard pile (played cards face up), it's also a smash!
If you see a match (number or image, depending on the version), be the first player to shout "SMASH!" and slap the matching card in the center pile.
What Happens After a Smash?
There are two scenarios depending on who reacted first:
Successful Smash: If you shouted "SMASH!" and slapped the matching card first, you get away with it! There's no penalty.
Mistaken Smash: If you yelled "SMASH!" but there was no actual match, you take a penalty! You must draw two cards from the draw pile and add them to your hand.
Bonus Cards (Optional):
Some versions of Ridley's Avocado Smash! include bonus cards that add an extra twist to the game:
Smash Card: When played, this card triggers a smash regardless of the number or image on the card itself.
Guacamole Card: When played, all players (including the person who played the card) must shout "Guacamole!" The last player to yell it takes all the cards in the discard pile and adds them to their hand.
Reverse Card: This card (if included) flips the playing order, so the next player to take a turn will be the person to your left instead of the right.
Continue the Round and Draw a Card:
After resolving the smash (successful or mistaken), the player who successfully smashed (or the player next in turn if there was a mistaken smash) takes the following action:
Draw a Card: Draw one card from the draw pile and add it to your hand.
The round continues with players taking turns playing a card from their hand, announcing the avocado number, looking for matches, and shouting "SMASH!" when they see one. The goal is to get rid of all your cards in your hand as quickly as possible.
Winning the Game
The first player to get rid of all their cards in their hand wins the game and is crowned the Avocado Smashing Champion!
