Cue Tokens: Used by the cue giver to mark the guessed hue.
Player Pieces: Used by players to mark their guesses on the grid.
Score Track: Used to keep track of players' scores.
Rulebook: Provides detailed instructions on gameplay.
Setup:
Place the Game Board: Lay the color grid board in the center of the table.
Shuffle the Color Cards: Shuffle the deck of color cards and place them face down.
Distribute Player Pieces: Each player takes a set of player pieces in their chosen color.
Decide the First Cue Giver: Choose a player to be the first cue giver.
Objective:
The objective is to score points by accurately guessing hues based on one- and two-word cues provided by the cue giver.
Gameplay:
The game is played over a series of rounds, with each player taking turns as the cue giver.
1. Cue Giver's Turn:
Draw a Color Card: The cue giver draws a color card and secretly looks at the hue and its coordinate.
Give a One-Word Cue: The cue giver gives a one-word clue to describe the hue.
Players Place First Guesses: Each player, starting with the player to the left of the cue giver and going clockwise, places one of their player pieces on the color grid where they think the hue is located based on the one-word cue.
2. Second Round of Clues and Guesses:
Give a Two-Word Cue: After all players have placed their first guesses, the cue giver gives a two-word clue to further describe the hue.
Players Place Second Guesses: Each player places a second player piece on the grid based on the new clue. They can place it on the same color as their first guess or choose a new one.
3. Scoring:
Reveal the Hue: The cue giver reveals the hue's coordinate on the color grid.
Score Points: Points are awarded based on the proximity of the players' guesses to the correct hue:
Exact Match: Players who guessed the exact hue score 3 points.
Adjacent Hue: Players who guessed a hue adjacent to the correct hue score 2 points.
Within 2 Spaces: Players who guessed a hue within two spaces of the correct hue score 1 point.
The cue giver scores points equal to the total points scored by all players during their turn.
Record Scores: Move player pieces along the score track to record the points earned.
Rotate Cue Giver: The role of cue giver rotates clockwise to the next player, and a new round begins.
Winning the Game:
The game continues until each player has been the cue giver a set number of times (determined by the number of players).
The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
Additional Rules:
No Synonyms or Color Names: The cue giver cannot use synonyms of the color, the name of the color itself, or compound words that include the color (e.g., "sky blue").
Challenging Clues: If a clue is deemed too similar to a forbidden clue, other players can challenge it. If the challenge is upheld, the cue giver must provide a new clue.
Clear Communication: Clues should be clearly spoken, and any disputes about clues should be resolved before guesses are placed.
Hues and Cues is a fun and engaging game that tests players' abilities to communicate and interpret colors creatively and accurately. Enjoy exploring the vibrant world of hues with your friends and family!
