Hedbanz Blast Off! Official Rules
HEDBANZ BLAST OFF! is a fast-paced, timely twist on the classic family game of “Who Am I?”
Objective
The goal of Hedbanz: Blast Off! is to correctly guess the picture on your card by asking yes-or-no questions before time runs out. The player who guesses the most cards correctly wins the game.
Setup
Players: 2-6 players.
Game Components:
Character cards (with pictures of various items, animals, or people).
Headbands (one for each player).
Timer (usually a 30-second timer).
Token or score tracker (if applicable).
Prepare the Cards: Shuffle the character cards and place them face-down in a stack.
Distribute Headbands: Give each player a headband to wear, ensuring they cannot see their own card.
Place the Timer: Set the timer to 30 seconds for each turn.
Gameplay
Taking Turns:
The first player draws a card from the stack without looking at it and places it in their headband (so everyone else can see it but they cannot).
The player who is “it” (the guesser) now has 30 seconds to ask yes-or-no questions to try to figure out what is on their card.
Example questions: "Is it a living thing?" or "Is it something you can eat?"
Answering Questions:
The other players answer the questions with yes or no.
The player guesses until they either guess the card correctly or the timer runs out.
Correct Guess:
If the player correctly guesses the card within the time limit, they keep the card. The next player takes their turn.
Incorrect Guess:
If the timer runs out and the player has not guessed correctly, they must discard the card. The next player takes their turn.
End of Round:
Each player continues taking turns asking questions and guessing until all players have had a chance to guess.
Winning the Game
After a set number of rounds (or when the cards are used up), the player with the most correctly guessed cards wins.
Notes/Variations
Speed Round:
In this variation, the timer is reduced to just 15 seconds. This forces players to ask very direct questions and think quickly. The added pressure makes it more exciting!
Winning: The player who correctly guesses the most cards in the shortest time wins the round.
Reverse Hedbanz:
Instead of the player asking yes/no questions, everyone else can ask the questions. The player wearing the headband has to answer as honestly as possible.
This twist makes the game more fun and tricky, as the wearer can’t control the questions.
No Yes or No:
In this variation, players are not allowed to answer questions with "Yes" or "No". Instead, they must answer with a more detailed response. For example, if the question is "Is it an animal?" the answer might be "Yes, it's a living thing with fur."
This variation increases difficulty and creativity, forcing players to think about the best way to describe their card without using simple answers.
Team Play:
If you have more than 4 players, form two teams. Each team collaborates on answering questions, but only one player per team asks questions each round. This variation promotes teamwork and strategy.
The teams can take turns guessing, or you can play until one team reaches a set number of points (e.g., 5 correct guesses).
Silent Hedbanz:
In this twist, players must not speak while asking questions. Instead, they can use gestures or props to convey their questions. For example, if asking about food, they might mime eating or use hand signs.
This variation creates a fun, silly challenge and changes how players communicate during the game.
Speed Guessing:
Once a player guesses a card correctly, the game continues, but the next player must immediately start asking questions for their own turn. The goal is to see how many correct guesses can be made before the timer runs out.
This variation is ideal for quick rounds and high-energy games.
Feel free to mix and match these variations to create the best experience for your group. Hedbanz: Blast Off! is a versatile game that can adapt to various play styles and preferences!
