The Trivial Pursuit Master Edition builds upon the classic Trivial Pursuit gameplay with a few tweaks and additional features. Here's a breakdown of the rules to become a Master of Trivia:

Objective: Similar to classic Trivial Pursuit, be the first player to collect all six colored wedge pieces and answer a final question correctly to win the game.

Number of Players: 2-6 players

Playing Time: Around 30-60 minutes

Components:

  • Game board with a central hub and six spokes

  • Six colored pie-shaped wedge pieces (corresponding to the six knowledge categories)

  • Die (six-sided)

  • Question and answer card deck containing trivia questions categorized by color

  • Playing tokens (one per player color)

  • Electronic timer (optional, included in some editions)

Setup:

  1. Choose Your Token: Each player selects a playing token and places it on the center hub of the game board.

  2. Prepare the Cards: Shuffle the question and answer card deck thoroughly and place it face down next to the board.

  3. Decide on Starting Player: Players can roll the die to determine who goes first, with the highest roller starting the game.

Gameplay:

The game is played in turns, with players taking turns clockwise. Here's what happens on a typical turn:

  1. Roll the Die: On your turn, roll the die. The number rolled determines how many spaces you can move your token around the outer track of the board (either clockwise or counter-clockwise, depending on house rules).

  2. Landing on a Space: There are two types of spaces you can land on:

    • Regular Space: If you land on a regular numbered space, you do not answer a question. Your turn simply ends, and play proceeds to the next player.

    • Category Headquarters Space (Wedge Space): Each section of the outer track has a space marked with a wedge of a specific color corresponding to a knowledge category (Geography, History, Entertainment, etc.). Landing on a wedge space allows you to attempt a question in that category and potentially earn a wedge piece.

  3. Answering a Question: When you land on a wedge space, another player (chosen by the group or following house rules) draws a card from the deck matching the category color of the space you landed on. They will read the question aloud from the card.

Traditional vs. Faster Gameplay:

The Master Edition offers two gameplay options:

  • Traditional Play: In this mode, you need to answer the question correctly to earn a wedge piece and potentially roll again for another question in the same category (landing on the same wedge space). Your turn ends if you answer incorrectly.

  • Faster Play: This variant allows you to collect a wedge piece any time you answer a question correctly, regardless of where you land on the board. This can speed up the game.

  1. Correct Answer: If you answer the question correctly, you earn a wedge piece of the corresponding color. Place the wedge on your token.

  2. Incorrect Answer:  The outcome depends on the chosen gameplay mode:

    • Traditional Play: Your turn ends, and play proceeds to the next player.

    • Faster Play: You don't earn a wedge, but your turn continues. You can roll the die and move again, potentially landing on another wedge space and attempting a new question.

  3. Moving Around the Board:  Continue moving around the board by rolling the die and answering questions when you land on wedge spaces. The goal is to collect one wedge piece of each of the six colors.

  4. Reaching the Center Hub: Once you have collected all six colored wedges, move your token to the center hub of the game board. You are now eligible to answer a final question to win the game.

  5. Final Question: The other players choose a category and draw a card. You must answer the final question correctly to win the game! If you answer incorrectly, the game continues, and other players with all six wedges can attempt the final question on their turns.

Additional Notes:

  • Electronic Timer (Optional): Some editions include an electronic timer to add a bit of pressure and keep the game moving at a brisk pace.

  • House Rules:  Always check for house rules before playing. Some variations might allow players to steal wedges or answer multiple questions consecutively in the same category.

Trivial Pursuit Master Edition offers a fun and challenging trivia experience with the traditional and faster gameplay options. So, gather your friends, test your knowledge across various categories, and strive to become the ultimate trivia master!
