How to Play Double Ditto
Components
- 400 category cards
- 15-second sand timer
- Score sheets
- Instruction card
Objective
The goal is to write down answers that you think other players will also write. Points are awarded for matching answers with others—great minds (and sometimes mischievous ones) think alike!
Setup
Give each player a score sheet. Choose someone to start as the Ditto Master, the round’s card reader.
Taking a Turn
- The Ditto Master draws a category card from the deck and reads it aloud to the group.
- Immediately after reading the card, they flip the 15-second timer.
- All players, including the Ditto Master, write down two answers that fit the category.
- Example: If the card is “Types of cheese”, responses might be cheddar, brie, swiss, provolone, etc.
Reading Answers
After time runs out:
- Starting with the Ditto Master, each player reads their answers aloud one at a time.
- If another player wrote the same answer, everyone with that answer says “Ditto” and crosses it off their sheet.
- Example: If a player says “cheddar” and others also wrote it, they all say “Ditto” and mark it as matched.
- If no one else wrote the answer, it stays uncrossed.
Continue around the group until all players have read both answers. Then, the player to the left of the current Ditto Master becomes the next one and begins the next round.
Scoring
After each round:
- Each matched answer (a “Ditto”) earns 1 point.
- If both of your answers are matched (a “Double Ditto”), you earn 3 points.
Players tally their scores on the bottom of their sheets.
Ending the Game
The game ends after:
- Each player has been the Ditto Master 4 times (for 4–6 players),
- 3 times (for 7–9 players), or
- 1–2 rounds (for groups of 10 or more).
At the end, everyone adds up their total points. The player with the highest score wins!
Double Ditto turns simple word prompts into a hilarious guessing game that rewards shared thinking and surprise overlaps. Whether you’re playing with close friends or new faces, it’s a great way to break the ice, spark laughs, and see who’s really on your wavelength.
