Object of the Game

Be the first player to get rid of all your cards. Along the way, bluff, challenge, and call out lies to gain the upper hand.

Setup

1. Choose a dealer and shuffle the cards.
2. Deal 7 cards to each player.
3. Place the rest of the deck face down as the Draw Pile.
4. Flip over the top card to create the Discard Pile.
   • If this card is an Action Card, apply its effect.
   • If it’s a Liar’s Card, flip until you reveal a regular card.
5. The player to the dealer’s left starts, and play moves clockwise.

Gameplay

Regular vs. Liar’s Cards

In Liar’s Uno, players can play cards either face up (Regular Cards) or face down (Liar’s Cards).

• Regular Cards: Play face up if the card matches the top of the Discard Pile by color, number, or symbol.
• Liar’s Cards: Play face down and announce what you claim it to be. You can either tell the truth or bluff completely.

Challenging a Liar’s Card

After a face-down card is played, any player may challenge:

• If the player told the truth, the challenger draws 1 card.
• If the player lied, they must take back the card and draw 1 card.
• If you play honestly and get challenged anyway — your opponent draws 1 card.

If no one challenges before the next player takes their turn, the play stands.

Playing a Turn

1. On your turn, you must play a card that matches the top of the discard pile (by color, number, or symbol).
2. If you cannot play a card, draw one. If it’s playable, you may play it immediately.
3. You may also choose to play a Liar’s Card by placing it face down and announcing what it supposedly is.
4. Always yell “UNO!” when you have one card left. If someone catches you before your next turn, draw 2 cards as a penalty.

Special Rules

7’s Swap

When you play a 7 of any color, you must swap hands with another player of your choice.

0’s Pass

When you play a 0, all players pass their hands to the next player in the current direction of play.

Action Cards

Card	Effect
Draw Two	Next player draws 2 cards and loses their turn.
Reverse	Changes the direction of play.
Skip	Next player’s turn is skipped.
Wild Draw Four	Choose a color; next player draws 4 cards and loses their turn.
Wild Liar’s Challenge	Choose a color, then all players place a card face down and claim it matches. You may challenge players one by one. Wrong answers draw 1 card each. The round ends when a true match is revealed.

Winning the Game

• The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the round.
• If multiple players go out in the same round (for example, after a Wild Liar’s Challenge), they win together.

Optional Scoring

After each round, count points from opponents’ remaining cards:

• Number Cards: Face Value
• Action Cards: 20 Points
• Wild Cards: 50 Points
  Play until a player reaches 500 points.
