How to Play Evil Genie
Objective
Score points by correctly predicting whether a player will accept a wish that includes one great benefit but one terrible consequence.
Setup
- Gather Players: 2 to 8 players can play. Grab some snacks and get ready to laugh.
- Shuffle the Decks: Shuffle the Good Cards and Evil Cards separately.
- Give Out Tokens: Give each player 5 point tokens. Keep the rest nearby as a supply.
- Choose a Wisher: Pick someone to be the first Wisher—this role will rotate each round.
Game Overview
Each round, players will try to create an outrageous wish by combining:
- 1 Good Card (a great outcome)
- 1 Evil Card (a terrible consequence)
The Wisher decides whether to accept or reject the twisted wish. Everyone else guesses what the Wisher will choose. Guess right? You score a point!
Taking a Turn
- The Wisher Draws:
- The Wisher draws 3 Good Cards and 3 Evil Cards.
- From these, they secretly choose 1 Good Card and 1 Evil Card to create a “wish”.
- The Wish is Read Aloud:
- The Wisher reads their chosen cards out loud using the phrase: “You get to [Good Card]… but… [Evil Card].”
- Example: “You get a mansion by the beach… but… you can only speak in chicken noises.”
- Everyone Else Guesses:
- Other players secretly guess whether the Wisher will accept or reject the wish.
- They place their token face-down to lock in their guess.
- The Wisher Decides:
- The Wisher reveals whether they’d take the wish or not.
- All players flip over their guesses.
- Scoring:
- Each correct guess earns 1 point token.
- The Wisher does not score this round.
- (Optional House Rule: Give the Wisher a point if no one guesses their choice correctly!)
- Pass the Role:
- The next player clockwise becomes the Wisher for the next round.
Ending the Game
- The game ends when a player reaches 10 points, or after a set number of rounds (you choose).
- The player with the most points at the end wins!
