How to Play Fletter

Objective

To score the most points by forming and claiming words using the letter cards.

Setup

1. Shuffle the Deck: Shuffle the deck of letter cards thoroughly.

2. Deal the Cards: Deal 12 cards face up in the center.

3. Determine First Player: Choose a player to go first, either by mutual agreement or by a random method such as rolling a die.

Gameplay

  1. Form Words: Players simultaneously look at the letters in the central pool and try to form words. Words must be at least three letters long.
  2. Claiming Words: When a player spots a word, they call it out and take the corresponding cards from the pool, placing them in front of themselves. Other players must immediately stop and verify the word. If the word is valid, the player keeps the cards. If the word is invalid, the player returns the cards to the pool.
  3. Replacing Cards: After a word is claimed, new cards are drawn from the deck to replace the used letters in the central pool, maintaining the initial number of cards.
  4. Timer: Optionally, use a timer for each round. Set a time limit (e.g., 2 minutes) for players to form and claim words. When the time is up, the round ends. Scoring
    • Words are scored based on their length:
      • 3-letter words: 1 point
      • 4-letter words: 2 points
      • 5-letter words: 3 points
      • 6-letter words: 4 points
      • 7-letter words: 5 points
      • 8-letter words: 6 points
    • Record the points on the scorepad after each round.

Winning the Game

  • The game continues for a predetermined number of rounds (e.g., 5 rounds).
  • After all rounds are completed, players tally their points.
  • The player with the highest total score wins the game.

Notes/Variations

  • Words must be found in a standard dictionary.
  • Proper nouns, abbreviations, acronyms, and contractions are not allowed.
  • Words cannot be reused in the same game.

  • Think Fast: Quickly scan the pool of letters and spot potential words before others do.
  • Focus on Longer Words: Aim for longer words to score more points.
  • Watch Your Opponents: Keep an eye on the words your opponents are forming and adapt your strategy accordingly.
