How to Llamas Unleashed

Objective

  • The goal is to be the first player to have a certain number of Animal cards in your Field:
    • 7 Animals for 2-5 players.
    • 6 Animals for 6-8 players.

Setup

  1. Reference Cards: Each player receives a Reference card.
  2. Baby Animals: Each player chooses a Baby Animal card and places it in their Field. The remaining Baby Animal cards go into the Nursery.
  3. Deck: Shuffle the blue-backed cards (including any expansions) to form the deck. Deal 5 cards to each player.
  4. First Player: The player who last spit goes first.

Gameplay – Each Turn Consists of 4 Phases

  1. Beginning of Turn Phase:
    • If any cards in your Field have effects that trigger at the beginning of your turn, activate them now.
  2. Draw Phase:
    • Draw 1 card from the deck.
  3. Action Phase:
    • Play a card from your hand, OR
    • Draw an additional card from the deck.
  4. End of Turn Phase:
    • Discard cards until you have 7 or fewer cards in your hand (unless a card states otherwise).

Card Types

  • Instant Cards: Playable at any time, even during another player’s turn.
  • Upgrade Cards: Enhance your own Field with positive effects.
  • Downgrade Cards: Impose negative effects on other players’ Fields.
  • Magic Cards: One-time effect cards that are discarded after use.
  • Animal Cards:
    • Baby Animal Cards: Start in the Nursery.
    • Basic Animal Cards: No effects.
    • Magical Animal Cards: Have effects.

Herd Bonus

  • If you have 3 or more Animal cards of the same type in your Field at the beginning of your turn, you get a special Herd Bonus. (Refer to the rule book for specifics)

Winning the Game

  • The first player to reach the required number of Animal cards in their Field wins.
  • If the deck runs out, the player with the most Animal cards wins.
  • In case of a tie:
    • Players count the letters in their Animal card names.
    • The player with the most letters wins.
    • If still tied, everyone loses.

Important Notes

  • Card effects can trigger chains of other effects.
  • When a card effect allows you to search the deck or discard pile, you must reveal the card you chose to the other players before adding it to your hand.
