Last Updated on April 14, 2025 by The Official Game Rules Team

Pokeno (PO-KE-NO) is a classic game that combines the luck of Bingo with the strategy of Poker. Players race to complete rows on their boards using a standard deck of cards, covering spaces as the dealer calls them out. With multiple variations and scoring options, PO-KE-NO is perfect for family game night, casual gatherings, or anyone who loves a mix of card games and chance.

How to Play Pokeno (PO-KE-NO)

Basic Rules:

  • Each player (except the dealer) receives a PO-KE-NO board and a stack of chips. If there are extra boards, the dealer may also join in.
  • The dealer shuffles the deck and turns over the top card, announcing it aloud (e.g., “Queen of Spades”).
  • Any player who has that card on their board places a chip on it.
  • The dealer continues turning over cards one at a time, and players keep marking their boards.
  • The first player to cover five cards in a row — either horizontally or vertically — calls out “OUT” and wins the round.
  • The winner becomes the next dealer.

Scoring Options

Option 1: Chip Collection
The winning player collects all chips placed on the other players’ boards.

Option 2: Poker Hand Value
The winner scores based on the Poker Value of the five covered cards. (See “Poker Hand Rankings” below.)

Game Variations

1. 5-Card PO-KE-NO

  • Follow the basic rules, but keep drawing until all players have five in a row.
  • The winner is the player whose completed line forms the highest-ranking Poker hand.
  • Scoring:
    • Winner takes all chips from opponents’ boards
      OR
    • Each player pays chips equal to the value of the winning hand

2. PO-KE-NO Blackjack

  • The dealer competes against all other players.
  • Cards are turned over until the dealer gets five in a row.
  • Players who also complete a line compare Poker hand values with the dealer:
    • Higher value beats the dealer
    • Lower value loses
  • Use standard scoring or create custom wagers before starting

3. PO-KE-NO Roulette

  • Each player places a wager chip on any card on their board, which marks one vertical and one horizontal row.
  • The dealer turns over 25 cards, calling each one aloud.
  • Players may only cover cards in rows marked by their wager chip.
  • If a player completes five in a row before 25 cards are called, they win.
  • If no one wins, the dealer claims victory.
