How to Play Spank The Pig!

Game Overview

  • Players: 2–7 (see tips for 5–7 player games below)
  • Play Time: ~5 minutes
  • Objective: End the game with the fewest Whammies to win.

What’s Included

  • 72 total cards:
    • 12 Pig cards
    • 60 non-pig animal cards (10 each of Beans, Hippos, Walruses, Zebracorns, Cows, and more)
  • 1 rule sheet

Setup Instructions

  1. Shuffle the full deck.
  2. Deal the cards roughly evenly into face-down stacks for each player.
  3. When players run out near the end, redistribute remaining cards evenly.

Goal of the Game

The player with the fewest Whammies at the end of the game wins and earns the prestigious title of Pig Spanking Champion.

How to Play Spank the Pig!

1. Start Each Round

  • Players chant: “SPANK – THE – PIG!”
  • On the word “PIG!”, each player flips over one card and places it face-up in front of them (do not peek early!).

2. React Fast

Once the cards are face-up:

  • Spank the Pigs:
See a Pig card? Be the first to slap your hand on it. Leave your hand in place to prove your speed!
  • Declare Doubles:
If two or more matching non-Pig animals appear, shout the animal’s name (e.g., “Bean!”).
Background colors do not matter—only the character on the card does.

Spank the Pig! Scoring Rules

Players earn Whammies for errors and slow reactions:

Whammies for being LAST to…

  • Spank a Pig card
  • Declare a correct Double

Whammies for being FIRST to make a mistake…

  • Spank a non-Pig card
  • Shout a false Double

Each Whammy is tracked using a card from the play area, placed in a personal “Whammy Pile.”

Note: If it’s unclear who made a mistake or was last, no Whammy is assigned.

Example Round

Four players reveal:

  • Zebracorn, Hippo, Pig, and Zebracorn.
  • Blue spanks the Hippo (mistake) and is also last to spank the Pig. Result: 2 Whammies.
  • Red is the last to yell “Zebracorn!” Result: 1 Whammy.
  • Other players: no penalties.

Game End

Play continues until there aren’t enough face-down cards for all players. Each player then counts their Whammies. The player with the fewest is crowned the Pig Spanking Champion!

Tiebreaker Rules

If two or more players tie:

  1. Shuffle the full deck.
  2. Give each tying player a small stack.
  3. Play sudden-death rounds until one player earns a Whammy—eliminating them.
  4. The last standing player wins!

5–7 Player Variant

For larger groups:

  • Only Spank the Pigs—skip declaring doubles to reduce chaos.

Helpful Tips

  • Play 1–2 practice rounds, especially with kids.
  • Stack new cards on top of face-up piles each round to track previous plays.
  • If cards become confusing, discard used cards to a side pile.
