Overview
UNO FLIP plays like regular UNO but with a twist: every card has a Light Side and a Dark Side. The game starts on the Light Side. When a Flip card is played, all cards—including players’ hands and the draw/discard piles—are flipped to the opposite side. The Dark Side has more punishing action cards. Players switch sides each time a Flip card is played, and the game continues until one player runs out of cards.
After each round, the winner scores points based on the cards remaining in the opponents’ hands. The first player to reach 500 points wins.
Setup
- Make sure all cards are facing the same direction: Light Side one way, Dark Side the other.
- Each player draws a card (Light Side up); highest number becomes the dealer (symbols count as 0).
- Dealer shuffles and deals 7 cards to each player. Players hold cards Light Side facing them.
- Place the rest of the deck Light Side down as the draw pile.
- Flip the top card Light Side up to start the discard pile.
If an action card is revealed first, follow the action immediately.
How to Play
- Play proceeds clockwise, starting with the player to the dealer’s left.
- On your turn, play a card that matches the top discard by number, color, or symbol.
- If you can’t play, draw a card. If playable, you may play it immediately. If not, your turn ends.
- You may also draw a card instead of playing, but then you may only play that drawn card (if it’s playable).
Action Cards
Light Side
- Draw One – Next player draws 1 card and skips their turn.
- Reverse – Reverses play direction.
- Skip – Next player misses their turn.
- Wild – Choose the next color.
- Wild Draw Two – Choose the next color; next player draws 2 cards and skips their turn. Only playable if you have no cards of the same color as the discard.
- Flip – Flip all cards to the Dark Side: flip the discard pile, draw pile, and each player’s hand.
Dark Side
- Draw Five – Next player draws 5 cards and misses their turn.
- Reverse – Reverses play direction.
- Skip Everyone – All other players are skipped. You go again.
- Wild – Choose the next color.
- Wild Draw Color – Choose a color. Next player draws until they draw that color and skips their turn. Only playable if you don’t have a card matching the discard’s color.
- Flip – Switch the game back to the Light Side.
Challenging Wild Cards: You can challenge someone who plays a Wild Draw Two or Wild Draw Color. If they could’ve legally played a matching color card, they draw the penalty instead of you. If they were honest, you draw additional cards as punishment.
Going Out
When you’re down to one card, yell “UNO!” before your next turn begins. If someone catches you not saying it, you draw 2 cards.
A round ends when a player plays their last card. If that card is an action card (Draw One, Draw Five, Wild Draw Two, or Wild Draw Color), the next player must carry out the effect before scoring.
If the draw pile runs out, reshuffle the discard pile to form a new draw pile.
Scoring
The round winner scores points for cards left in opponents’ hands:
Light or Dark Side (whichever was active):
- Number cards (1–9): Face value
- Draw One: 10 points
- Draw Five: 20 points
- Reverse / Skip: 20 points
- Skip Everyone: 30 points
- Flip: 20 points
- Wild: 40 points
- Wild Draw Two: 50 points
- Wild Draw Color: 60 points
Winning the Game
The first player to reach 500 points wins.
Alternative Way to Win: Track how many points players are left with after each round. When someone reaches 500, the player with the lowest total is the winner.

UNO Flip adds a twist to the traditional UNO game with the flipping mechanism and the special cards. Enjoy your game!
