How to Play Two Truths and a Lie

Objective

The goal of the game is simple: fool the group by sneaking a lie past them. Each player takes a turn sharing three statements about themselves—two of which are true and one that’s a lie. The rest of the group tries to guess which statement is the lie.

Setup

No setup is required, but it’s helpful to sit in a circle or around a table so everyone can hear each other clearly. This game can be played just for fun or with scoring if you want a competitive twist.

How to Play

  1. One player starts by saying three statements about themselves. For example:
    • I’ve gone skydiving.
    • I have a twin brother.
    • I’ve never been on an airplane.
  2. The rest of the group discusses and votes on which statement they think is the lie. You can vote by a show of hands or take turns making guesses.
  3. The player reveals the lie, and everyone learns the truth.
  4. The next player takes a turn, and the game continues until everyone has had a chance to play.

Tips

  • Make your lie believable and your truths sound a little unusual.
  • Use the game as a conversation starter—each round often leads to fun stories and surprising revelations.

This game is especially great for breaking the ice and learning fun, unexpected things about friends or new acquaintances.
