How to Play UNO TEAMS!

Objective of the Game

The goal of UNO Teams is simple: be the first team to get rid of all the cards in both players’ hands. Just like classic UNO, you’ll match cards by color, number, or symbol—but this time, teamwork is essential.

What’s Included

  • 112 UNO Teams cards
  • Team play rules with special twists

UNO Teams Setup

  1. Choose a partner and sit across from them.
  2. Select a dealer and shuffle the deck.
  3. Deal 7 cards to each player.
  4. Place the remaining cards face down in the middle—this is the Draw Pile.
  5. Flip the top card to start the Discard Pile. (If it’s an Action Card, keep flipping until a number card appears.)
  6. Before play begins, each player passes 1 card from their hand to their teammate.
  7. The player to the dealer’s left starts, and play proceeds clockwise.

UNO Teams Gameplay

On your turn:

  • Pop one card onto the Discard Pile if it matches the color, number, or symbol.
  • If you don’t have a match, draw one card from the Draw Pile. If the new card can be played, you may play it immediately.
  • You may also choose to draw a card even if you already have a playable one.

Action Cards

  • Draw Two (×2) – The next player draws 2 cards and loses their turn.
  • Skip – The next player loses their turn.
  • Reverse – Reverses the direction of play.
  • Wild – Can be played on any card; choose the next color.
  • Wild Team Play – Choose a color, then skip directly to your teammate. If they can’t play, you must draw 2 cards.
  • Wild Team Draw Four – The next player draws 2 cards and skips, AND their partner also draws 2 cards. Choose the next color.
  • Passing Symbol – When played, you and your teammate must exchange 1 card each (without giving hints).

Communication Rules

  • You can talk to your teammate generally, but you cannot reveal your cards or hint about them.
  • When a Wild is played, you may not influence your teammate’s choice of color.

Special Gameplay Rules

  • Calling UNO – If you or your partner have only 1 card left, either of you must yell “UNO!” before the next player begins their turn. Forget, and your teammate must draw 2 cards.
  • Going Out – When you run out of cards, your teammate gives you half of theirs (rounded down). You’re still in play until both teammates are completely out of cards.
  • Tagging Back In – If you’re out of cards and your partner later draws, they must give you half of their cards, putting you back in the game.

Winning the Game

Your team wins the round when both you and your partner run out of cards. For longer games, keep score:

  • Number cards (0–9): Face value
  • Draw Two, Skip, Reverse: 20 points each
  • Wild and Wild Team Cards: 50 points each

First team to reach 500 points wins.

Strategy Tips

  1. Coordinate with Your Teammate: Uno Teams relies on teamwork. Work together to play action cards at the right time. Help your teammate clear their cards while trying to slow down the opposing team.
  2. Use Action Cards Wisely: Action cards like Draw Two, Skip, and Reverse can significantly change the flow of the game. Play them strategically to disrupt the other team or assist your teammate.
  3. Control the Color: Using Wild and Wild Draw Four cards to control the color is essential for team coordination. Set your teammate up with the right color so they can make plays.
  4. Don’t Forget to Call Uno: If you’re down to one card, remember to call Uno! Failing to do so could result in a penalty and slow your team down.
  5. Keep Track of Opponent’s Cards: Pay attention to the remaining cards of your opponents. If you know they’re close to finishing, focus on disrupting their plays using special cards.

Uno Teams is an exciting, cooperative variation that encourages strategic teamwork and quick thinking. It’s perfect for players who enjoy the classic Uno mechanics but want a more dynamic and interactive experience with friends or family.
