How to Play Blink

What’s Included

  • 60 Symbol Cards
  • Travel Tin
  • Quick Start Rule Guide

Goal of the Game

Be the first player to play all the cards from your draw pile and hand.

Setup (2 Players)

  1. Shuffle the entire deck of 60 cards.
  2. Deal two equal piles face down — one to each player.
  3. Place the top card from each draw pile face down in the center, side by side, accessible to both players.
  4. Each player draws the top three cards from their draw pile into their hand. You may look at your hand.

How to Play

  1. At the same time, both players flip the center cards face up. The game starts immediately.
  2. Players do not take turns — instead, both race to play cards from their hand onto either of the center piles.
  3. To play a card, it must match at least one attribute of the top card on the center pile:
    • Color
    • Shape
    • Number of symbols
  4. Each time you play a card, immediately draw a new one from your pile to keep your hand at a maximum of three cards (if cards remain).
  5. Play continues rapidly until one player runs out of cards from both their draw pile and hand. That player wins the game.

Example:

A card with four yellow stars could be played on:

  • Any card with yellow symbols (matching color),
  • Any card with stars (matching shape), or
  • Any card with four symbols (matching count).

Gameplay Rules

  1. You may only play one card at a time.
  2. If neither player can make a valid move:
    • If both players still have draw piles, each draws the top card and places it face up on one of the center piles. Resume play.
    • If one or both players have no draw pile left, each selects one card from their hand and simultaneously places it face up on one of the center piles. Resume play.
    • If each player has only one card remaining and no matches can be made, the game is a tie.
  3. BLINK is a fast-paced game. For a longer experience, many players prefer to play best-of-three or best-of-five rounds.

Variant: 3-Player BLINK

To play with 3 players:

  1. Shuffle and deal three equal face-down piles.
  2. Each player places their draw pile in front of them.
  3. Everyone places the top card from their pile face down to their right, so each card is shared between two players, forming a triangle.
  4. Each player can only play onto the center pile to their left or right.
  5. Gameplay and winning conditions remain the same.

Tournament / 4+ Player Play

  • For four or more players, you can organize a single-elimination tournament.
  • Each match is played best-of-three. The winner advances.

Adjusting for Skill Levels

If one player is clearly faster, you can balance gameplay by:

  • Giving the faster player more cards at the start of the game.

Blink is a game that rewards quick thinking and fast reflexes, making it a fun and challenging game for players of all ages.
