How to Play Giant Spoons
Overview
Players: 3–8
Ages: 7+
Contents: 54-card deck, 7 giant spoons, rules
Objective
Be the first to collect four of a kind in your hand and grab a spoon from the center. Once one spoon is taken, everyone else must scramble to grab one too. Don’t get stuck as the only player without a spoon!

Setup
- Use one fewer spoon than the number of players. (Example: 8 players = 7 spoons.)
- Place the spoons in the center of the table where everyone can easily reach them.
- Put the unused spoons back in the box.
How to Play
- Deal the Cards
- Choose a dealer for the first round.
- The dealer shuffles and deals four cards to each player.
- Place the remaining deck face down in front of the dealer.
- Start the Passing
- The dealer draws the top card from the deck.
- Decide whether to keep it or pass it:
- Keep it → add it to your hand and pass one unwanted card face down to the player on your left.
- Don’t want it → pass the drawn card face down to the player on your left.
- All players repeat this process at the same time: pick up the card passed from the right, decide whether to keep it, then pass one card left.
- Speed It Up
- The dealer controls the pace. Start slowly, but speed up as the round goes on. The faster the cards move, the harder it gets to manage your hand and keep an eye on the spoons!
- Grab a Spoon!
- As soon as any player collects four of a kind, they quietly (or dramatically!) grab a spoon.
- Once one spoon is taken, everyone else must grab one too.
- The player left without a spoon is eliminated from the game.
Next Rounds
- Remove one spoon from the center.
- Shuffle, deal, and play again.
- Each round, one player will be eliminated.
Winning the Game
The game continues until only one spoon — and two players — remain. The last player to successfully grab a spoon is the winner!
Giant Spoons FAQ
You’ll need a standard deck of cards (or the Giant Spoons deck if included), a set of oversized spoons (one fewer than the number of players), and a group of at least 3 players.
The game works best with 3–8 players, but larger groups can join in by adding extra decks and spoons.
The player with the firmest grip gets the spoon, but players should avoid rough play. House rules can be set for ties, like rock-paper-scissors or replaying a round.
The last player left in the game is the winner. Each round, one player is eliminated for not grabbing a spoon in time.
The rules are the same, but Giant Spoons uses oversized spoons or props, which makes the game funnier and more physical.
