How to Play Guess Who? Card Game

Components

• 40 Face Cards
• 20 Mystery Cards

Object of the Game

Your goal is to guess your opponent’s Mystery Character before they identify yours. You’ll take turns asking yes or no questions to eliminate possibilities until you’re confident enough to make a final guess.

Setup

  1. Each player takes one set of Face Cards in a single color.
  2. Lay out your Face Cards face up in a 4 x 5 grid in front of you.
  3. Shuffle the yellow Mystery Cards. Each player draws the top card, secretly looks at it, then places it face down beside their grid. Keep this card hidden at all times.
  4. Set aside the remaining Mystery Cards. They are only used when starting a new game.

How to Play

The player who seems more mysterious begins, and turns alternate.

On Your Turn

  1. Ask a yes-or-no question about the Mystery Character your opponent is hiding.
Example: “Does your character have glasses?”
Your opponent must answer either “yes” or “no.”
  2. Eliminate characters based on the answer:
    • If the answer is “yes,” flip over every card that does not match that feature.
    • If the answer is “no,” flip over every card that does match that feature.

Continue asking questions on each of your turns, narrowing down the grid until you believe you know which character your opponent is hiding.

Tips for Asking Smart Questions

Study the full set of characters carefully. Look for differences in appearance, including:
• Hair color
• Eye color
• Facial hair
• Accessories
• Distinctive details like hats, glasses, or big features

Ask broad questions early to eliminate larger groups of cards, then focus on more specific traits as the grid narrows.

Making a Guess

When you feel confident, you may spend your entire turn to make an official guess instead of asking a question.
• If you guess correctly, you win the game.
• If you guess incorrectly, your opponent wins immediately.

Only guess when you are sure, because a wrong guess ends the game.

Winning the Game

You win by correctly identifying your opponent’s Mystery Character before they identify yours.

Conclusion

The Guess Who? Card Game keeps the spirit of the original game while making it faster, more portable, and easy to teach. With careful observation and smart questioning, players of all ages can enjoy quick rounds filled with deduction and suspense.

This version is designed for two players, just like the original classic.
