How to Play Intimacy
Concept
The BestSelf Intimacy Deck consists of a set of cards containing prompts, questions, and conversation starters related to various aspects of a relationship, including:
- Communication
- Intimacy (physical and emotional)
- Life Goals
- Past experiences
- Relationship history
- Hopes and dreams
Setup
1. Prepare the Deck: Shuffle the Intimacy BestSelf cards and place them face-down in the center of the playing area.
2. Determine the Starting Player: Decide who will be the starting player for the first round. This can be done by any agreed-upon method, such as the player with the nearest upcoming birthday.
Gameplay
- Set the Mood (Optional):  Create a comfortable and private space for you and your partner. Consider dimming the lights, putting away distractions like phones, and setting a relaxing mood.
- Shuffle the Cards:Â Mix the deck thoroughly before each session.
- Pick a Card:Â Take turns drawing cards from the deck and reading the prompts or questions aloud to each other.
- Open Communication:  Engage in an honest and open conversation based on the prompt.  There are no right or wrong answers; the goal is to actively listen, share your perspectives, and learn more about each other.
- Go Deeper (Optional):  Don’t be afraid to delve deeper into the conversation if something resonates with you or your partner. Share your thoughts, feelings, and vulnerabilities openly.
Ending the Game
- The game can continue for as long as players wish, with each round deepening the bonds between participants.
- Players may choose to end the game at any time, or after a predetermined number of rounds or questions.
Notes/Variations
- Set a Time Limit (Optional): If you find conversations easily get derailed, consider setting a timer for each card (e.g., 5-10 minutes).
- Be Respectful:Â Always maintain a respectful and supportive tone during the conversation.
- Focus on Listening:Â Actively listen to your partner’s responses without judgment.
- Take Turns:Â Â Ensure each partner gets equal time to express themself and respond to prompts.
- Embrace Vulnerability:Â Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable and share your true feelings.
- Enjoy the Process:Â The primary focus is to have a meaningful conversation and connect with your partner on a deeper level.
Intimacy BestSelf is more than just a game; it’s an opportunity for partners to strengthen their emotional connection, enhance communication, and deepen their intimacy. By fostering vulnerability, empathy, and open communication, it encourages partners to explore and celebrate their relationship in a meaningful way.
