How to Play Kollide

Game Components:

  • 20 magnetic pieces
  • A string or circular boundary to define the playing area

Setup:

  1. Lay the string or establish the circular boundary on a flat surface to create the “battlefield.”
  2. Divide the 20 magnets equally among players. For example, in a two-player game, each player receives 10 magnets.

Objective: The goal is to be the first to place all your magnets into the battlefield without any magnets linking together due to magnetic attraction.

Kollide Gameplay:

  • Players take turns placing one magnet at a time within the battlefield.
  • Magnets can be positioned anywhere inside the boundary, but they must lie flat and cannot overlap the boundary line.
  • If, during placement, magnets snap together (collide) due to magnetic attraction, the player who caused the collision must collect the linked magnets into their hand.
  • Play then passes to the next player.

Winning the Game:

The first player to successfully place all their magnets into the battlefield without causing any to link wins the game.

Tips:

  • As the battlefield fills up, magnetic forces between pieces become more unpredictable. Place your magnets carefully, considering both the position and the polarity to minimize attraction.
  • Observing the behavior of magnets during your opponent’s turns can provide insights into safer placements.
