How to Play Love Lingual

Overview

Love Lingual is a card-based game that prompts deep, lighthearted, romantic, and thought-provoking discussions between partners. There are no points, winners, or losers — the goal is to connect, reflect, and grow closer as a couple.

Game Details

  • Players: 2
  • Ages: 18+
  • Time: Flexible (play as long as you’d like — from 10 minutes to an hour or more)
  • Components:
    • 150 cards with conversation prompts
    • Divided into 5 categories:
      1. Family
      2. Intimacy
      3. Couple
      4. Individual
      5. Past & Future

Setup

  1. Shuffle the deck or choose cards from specific categories depending on the kind of conversation you’d like to have.
  2. Decide how you’ll play:
    • Draw randomly from the full deck
    • Take turns selecting cards from specific categories
    • Use only certain categories for a themed date night

How to Play

There are no strict rules, but here’s a common way to play:

  1. One player draws a card and reads the question aloud to their partner.
  2. The partner answers the question honestly and thoughtfully.
  3. The roles switch: the other partner draws the next card and asks.
  4. Continue drawing and responding for as many rounds as you’d like.

You can:

  • Pause for discussion or storytelling after each answer.
  • Skip or redraw if a question feels too personal or irrelevant.
  • Set a timer if you want a shorter session (e.g., 15 minutes).

Sample Prompts

  • “What’s something new you’d like to try together?”
  • “What’s your biggest fear when it comes to our relationship?”
  • “What’s a memory from your childhood that shaped who you are today?”
  • “How do you like to be shown love?”

Variations

  • Themed Night: Choose one category (like Intimacy) and build a whole date night around that.
  • Double Date Edition: If comfortable, play with another couple by answering prompts in a group.
  • Journaling: Use prompts for individual reflection or couples journaling sessions.

Purpose

Love Lingual is more than just a game; it’s an opportunity for genuine connection and understanding between players. By fostering vulnerability, empathy, and open communication, it encourages deeper relationships and meaningful interactions that can last long after the game is over.
