Official Slamwich Rules

Last Updated on July 30, 2025 by The Official Game Rules Team

Slamwich is a fast-paced, pattern-recognition card game where players race to slap sandwich stacks to collect cards and outlast their opponents. Designed for quick reflexes and sharp eyes, players flip cards to build delicious (and sometimes rotten) sandwich piles while watching for matches, action cards, and sneaky thieves. It’s a battle of speed and observation, perfect for kids, families, and anyone who enjoys a quick-thinking challenge.

How to Play Slamwich

Objective

Be the first player to collect all the cards and win the game.

What’s in the Box

55 Total Cards:

  • 44 Food Cards
  • 3 Thief Cards
  • 8 Muncher Cards

Setup

Before you start, take a moment to look through the deck. Familiarize yourself with the different card types—especially the Thief and Muncher cards, and pairs like peanut butter and jelly or pickles and eggs.

  1. Choose a dealer. The dealer shuffles and deals the cards evenly among players.
  2. If any cards are left over, place them face-up in the center pile.
  3. Each player stacks their cards face-down in front of them. No peeking!
  4. The player to the left of the dealer goes first. Play continues clockwise.

Gameplay

On your turn, flip your top card and place it face-up into the center pile. Flip without looking so everyone sees the card at the same time.

Slap the pile when you see one of the following:
  • Double Decker: Two identical cards played back-to-back.
  • Slamwich: Two identical cards with a different card sandwiched between them (e.g., Lettuce – Tomato – Lettuce).
  • Thief Card: A masked thief appears—act fast!
Claiming the Pile
  • If you’re the first to slap on a Double Decker or Slamwich, take the entire center pile and add it face-down to the bottom of your stack.
  • If a Thief appears, slap the pile and shout “Stop thief!
    • If you slap first but forget to yell, another player who says “Stop thief!” first takes the pile.
  • After collecting the pile, immediately start the next round by flipping the top card from your deck into the center.

Muncher Cards – Special Action Cards

Munchers are tricky and powerful. Each Muncher Card shows a person munching a sandwich and has a number (1, 2, or 3).

  • When you play a Muncher Card, you become the muncher. You may take the center pile unless you’re stopped.
  • The player to your left now flips over 1 to 3 cards (based on the Muncher Card’s number) to try to stop you.

A Muncher can be stopped if:

  • A Double Decker, Slamwich, or Thief appears.
    • Any player (even the muncher) can slap. First to slap takes the pile.
  • A new Muncher Card is played (as long as it doesn’t form a Slamwich or Double Decker).
    • Now the new muncher takes over, and the player to their left must try to stop them.

Note: Muncher Cards can form Slamwiches or Double Deckers, so those rules still apply.

Slip Slaps

Slapped by mistake? That’s a Slip Slap.

  • If you slap when no Slamwich, Double Decker, or Thief is in play, it’s a Slip Slap.
  • You lose one card, placing it face-up on the center pile.
  • The player to your left starts the next round.

Ending the Game

  • When a player runs out of cards, they’re out.
  • Play continues until only one player remains.
  • That player is the winner!

Optional Time Limit Rule

Short on time? Set a timer before playing. When time runs out, everyone counts their cards. The player with the most cards wins.

Alternate Gameplay – For Younger Players

Want a faster, simpler version?
Remove the Muncher Cards from the deck. This version is easier for younger kids and keeps the game moving quickly.
