How to Play Snailed It!
Game Components
- 4 Snail Cards
- 8 Starter Cards (numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, 12, 14, 16, 18)
- 72 Number Cards (numbers 1–18 in four colors: orange, yellow, blue, and pink)
- Paper and pen (to track points)
Setup
- Place the 4 Snail cards face up in a vertical column in the center of the play area.
- Shuffle the 8 Starter cards. Place one face down to the left and one face down to the right of each Snail card. These create two discard piles for each color row.
- Shuffle the 72 Number cards. Deal 8 cards face down to each player. Players keep their cards hidden.
- Place the remaining deck face down nearby — this is the penalty pile.
- Keep paper and a pen handy to record scores at the end of each round.

Snailed It! Gameplay
Turn Order
- The youngest player goes first, then play continues clockwise.
On Your Turn
- Play a card: Place one card from your hand face up on either the left or right discard pile in the row that matches your card’s color.
- Important: If you play the same color as the player before you, you must draw one card from the penalty pile.
- Check for a gap:
- If your card creates a number gap between the two discard piles in its color row, other players can yell “Snailed it!” and throw matching cards at you that fit the gap.
- You don’t add tossed cards to your hand. Instead, set them aside in front of you.
- For each tossed card, you must draw one card from the penalty pile.
- Players may continue tossing until the next player starts their turn.
- If your card does not create a number gap, your turn simply ends.
- If your card creates a number gap between the two discard piles in its color row, other players can yell “Snailed it!” and throw matching cards at you that fit the gap.

Penalty Pile Refill Rule:
If the penalty pile runs out mid-round, shuffle all set-aside tossed cards into a new penalty pile. Otherwise, keep them aside until the next round.
End of a Round
- A round ends when at least one player has no cards left in hand after their turn.
- If you play your last card but create a gap that causes others to toss cards at you, you must take cards from the penalty pile. The round continues since you still have cards.
- If you tossed your last card at someone else, they draw from the penalty pile, and the round ends once they’ve drawn.
- Multiple players may finish with no cards at the same time.
Scoring
- At the end of each round, count the cards left in each player’s hand.
- Cards are worth 1, 2, or 3 points (depending on the number shown).
- Add new points to each player’s running total.
- If any player reaches 18 or more points, the game ends.
Winning the Game
- The game ends when one or more players reach 18+ points.
- The winner is the player with the lowest score.
- If two or more players tie with the lowest score, they share the win.
Alternate Play
- End after a set number of rounds instead of reaching 18 points.
- To adjust game length, agree before starting to:
- End the game at a different point total (e.g., 12 for a short game, 25 for a long one).
Snailed It! FAQ
The game works best with 2–6 players, but you can adjust rules slightly for larger groups.
Shuffle all cards set aside from “tossed” penalties to form a new penalty pile and continue play.
Yes. Any player who notices a number gap in the discard piles may yell “Snailed it!” and toss cards accordingly.
Points are based on the value shown on each card left in your hand. Refer to the card numbers to calculate 1, 2, or 3 points per card.
You must take one card from the penalty pile for every card tossed at you. This may put cards back in your hand, so the round continues until all players have drawn their penalties.
Yes. Players can agree to end the game at a different point total (e.g., 12 or 25) or after a set number of rounds instead of the standard 18 points.
No. Tossing cards only happens on other players’ turns when they create a gap. You can participate in tossing cards but not add them to your hand.
