How to Play Spot It! Connect

Overview

Players: 2–4 (or teams) | Ages: 7+ | Play Time: 15–20 minutes

Components

  • 1 deck of black cards (Starting cards)
  • 4 decks of colored cards (Pink, Orange, Green, and Blue)
  • Illustrated symbols on each card

Setup

  1. Sort the cards by color — pink, orange, green, blue, and black.
  2. Place one black card face-up in the center of the table. This is the starting card.
    • Set the rest of the black cards aside, picture-side down. You’ll use them in later rounds.
  3. Distribute the colored decks:
    • Each player takes one color deck and places it face down in front of them.
    • If there are more than 3 players, play in teams. Divide a single color deck evenly among teammates.
  4. Make sure everyone can reach the center of the table — you’re ready to begin!
A top-down photograph shows a game in progress on a dark, rustic wooden table, featuring hexagonal cards from the Spot It! Connect game. Seven of the six-sided cards are visible, each with a white border and containing numerous small, colorful, eclectic illustrations. The cards are arranged in a central cluster, and all of them have a colored outline that matches a design on the back of the game box: pink, yellow, black, green, and orange. The game appears to involve players matching symbols between the cards. Two players' hands are visible, reaching into the frame from the left and right sides to touch or place cards. The hand on the left is holding a card with a pink border, and the hand on the right is touching a card with a green border.

Spot It! Connect Gameplay

All players play simultaneously, racing to find matching symbols and connect their cards into a line of four.

1. Match a Symbol

  • Each player flips over the top card of their deck.
  • Look for a matching symbol between your card and any card currently on the table (including the central black starting card).
  • Once you spot a match, say the symbol out loud (or point to it if preferred for younger players).

2. Place Your Card

  • Place your card along one of the six sides of the matching card so that the matching symbols are adjacent.
  • You cannot place cards on top of other cards — only next to them.
  • The cards can be connected in a row, column, or diagonal line.

3. Strategy and Blocking

  • Keep an eye on your opponents! If another player is close to connecting four of their color, you can block them by matching one of your cards to theirs.
  • Any new card that shares a matching symbol with any card already on the table can be placed on any of the six sides of that card.

4. Continue the Race

  • Players continue flipping and matching cards as fast as they can, racing to complete a line of four of their own color before anyone else.

Winning the Round

  • The round ends immediately when a player (or team) connects four cards of the same color in a straight line — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
  • Curved lines do not count.
A photograph shows seven hexagonal game cards from Spot It! Connect arranged in a connected pattern on a white surface, demonstrating the "connect" aspect of the game. Each card has a different colored border (blue, orange, pink, purple, and green) and is filled with small, colorful, eclectic icons of objects like food (popcorn, watermelon, donuts, avocado), animals (dragon, octopus, seahorse), and various items (headphones, boombox, sunglasses, volcano). Colored lines with small suction-cup-like ends are overlaid on the cards, visually linking symbols that have been matched. For example, a red line connects a popcorn icon on one card to a popcorn icon on an adjacent card. This illustration highlights the objective of the game, which is to spot matching symbols and connect the cards.

Starting a New Round

  1. Each player picks up their color deck again.
  2. Turn over the next black starting card from the black deck and place it in the center.
  3. Play as many rounds as you like — you can set a score goal (e.g., first to win three rounds) or just play for fun!

Conclusion

Spot It! Connect combines quick reflexes with clever strategy. Every match is a chance to extend your line or block someone else’s — and every round brings a new layout and new opportunities. Perfect for family game nights or friendly competition, this game will keep everyone engaged from the first flip to the final connection!
