How to Play The Oddballs

Objective

Be the first to create a sequence of four of your Oddball dog cards in a 4×4 grid to win a round. Win 3 rounds to win the game.

Setup

  1. Each player selects an Oddball character and holds their deck of Oddball cards face down in hand.
  2. Decide who will go first.
  3. No physical grid is included — players must visualize a 4×4 grid in their minds or on the table.

Gameplay

  1. The first player places the top card from their deck face up in the center of the imaginary grid.
  2. On your turn, you must:
    • Choose where to place your top card on the grid — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally adjacent to any existing card.
    • Decide the position first, then flip and place the card face up in that spot. You cannot look at the card before placing it.
  3. Play continues clockwise, with each player adding to the grid in the same way.
  4. The first player to get four of their own Oddball cards in a row (line, column, or diagonal) wins the round.

Special Cards

Mixed into the decks are quirky action cards like:

  • Kooky – If this card is played, all players must immediately race to play their top-most card on top of it.
  • Roll Up – A player who plays this card must discard all the cards either vertically or horizontally from the line they placed the card in.
  • Cheek Smush
These cards add unpredictable effects that make each round more chaotic and fun.
