How to Play UNO Splash

Objective

• The goal of Uno Splash is the same as traditional Uno: be the first player to play all your cards.
• First player to reach 500 points wins. You earn points by being the first to discard your hand and by accumulating the value of the cards left in your opponents’ hands (You can use this rule if you want to play multiple hands).

Setup

1. Gather 2 to 10 players.

2. Each player starts with a hand of 7 cards.

3. Place a water-resistant surface in the center of the playing area, such as a pool float, table, or waterproof mat. This will serve as the playing surface.

4. Place the remaining cards face down in the center as the draw pile.

5. Flip the top card of the draw pile to start the discard pile. This card determines the starting color or symbol.

Gameplay

1. Turn Structure:

• Players take turns in clockwise order.
• On your turn, play a card from your hand that matches the color, number, or symbol of the top card on the discard pile.
• If you don’t have a playable card, draw a card from the draw pile. If it’s playable, you may play it immediately; otherwise, your turn ends.

2. Special Cards:

• Splash Cards (0 and 2): When played, these trigger the Whirlpool.  Shake the included Whirlpool and follow the instruction that floats to the top. These instructions can involve drawing cards, changing direction of play, or even discarding cards.
• Wild Card: Changes the current color to any color you choose.
• Draw Two (+2): Forces the next player to draw two cards and lose their turn.
• Skip: Skips the next player’s turn.
• Reverse: Reverses the direction of play.

3. Splash Cards:

• Whenever a player plays a Draw Two card, the next player must draw two cards and then splash the player who played the Draw Two card.
• Whenever a player plays a Wild Draw Four card, the next player must draw four cards and then splash the player who played the Wild Draw Four card.
• If a player forgets to say “Uno” when they have one card left in their hand and are about to play it, the other players can splash them as a penalty before they play the card.

Winning the Game

The first player to discard all their cards wins the round and scores points based on the value of the cards remaining in other players’ hands.

• Numbered cards: Face value
• Skip/Reverse/Draw Two: 20 points each
• Wild Card: 50 points

Notes/Variations

• Ensure that all players are prepared to get wet, and that the playing area is suitable for water play.
• If you don’t want to get wet, you can modify the game by skipping the water play aspect and simply playing Uno as usual.
• You can play a Wild Card or a Draw Two even if you have another playable card in your hand, but this might be a risky strategy!
• Some versions of Uno Splash might have slightly different rules or additional card types. Always refer to the specific instructions that come with your game.
