Official Tripoley Rules

Tripoley is a combination of poker, Michigan Rummy, and a board game, played with a standard deck of cards and a special Tripoley game board. Here's a summary of the rules:

Components

  • Tripoley Board: Includes sections for Poker, Michigan Rummy, and a central area for placing chips.

  • Deck of Cards: Standard 52-card deck, sometimes used with jokers.

  • Poker Chips: For betting.

  • Player Tokens/Pawns: For tracking points in Michigan Rummy.

Setup

  1. Place the Board: Set up the Tripoley board in the center of the playing area.

  2. Distribute Chips: Each player starts with an equal number of chips.

  3. Deal Cards: Each player is dealt 5 cards for Michigan Rummy. The rest of the deck is used for Poker and the remaining parts of the game.

Game Phases

1. Poker Phase

  • Betting: Begin with a round of Poker. Players bet chips based on the strength of their poker hands. Traditional poker hand rankings apply.

  • Dealing: Deal five community cards face up on the board, and players use these to create their best poker hand.

2. Michigan Rummy Phase

  • Gameplay: The goal is to form sets and runs with the cards in hand. The board has a grid where players place cards.

  • Scoring: Points are scored based on the sets and runs created. The points are recorded on the board or on a score sheet.

3. Central Board Phase

  • Playing: Players place chips into various sections of the board, which may include areas for different types of bets or additional games.

  • Winning: The player with the most chips or points in the central area at the end of the game wins.

Rules

  • Turn Order: Players take turns in a clockwise direction.

  • Winning Poker Hands: Follow traditional poker hand rankings.

  • Michigan Rummy: Players aim to complete sets and runs with the cards they are dealt.

Scoring

  • Poker Phase: Players win chips based on poker hand strength.

  • Michigan Rummy: Players score points for completed sets and runs, with different point values assigned to various combinations.

Variations

  • Jokers: Some versions use jokers as wild cards in Poker or Michigan Rummy.

  • House Rules: Players may have house rules that modify the gameplay or scoring.
