How to Play Chainlink

Game Contents

  • A deck of Chainlink cards
Each card contains a sequence of four words, with one or more of those words hidden. Your job is to figure out what’s missing and complete the chain.

Objective

Be the first player to correctly guess the missing word(s) in the chain on the current card. The player who earns the most cards by the end of the game wins.

Setup

  1. Shuffle the deck of cards and place it face down in the center of the table.
  2. Choose a player to be the first reader.
  3. Determine how many rounds to play, or simply go through the entire deck.

Gameplay

  1. Draw and Read: The reader draws the top card and reads aloud the chain of four words with one or more missing. For example:
    • “___ Apple Pie Spoon”
  2. Guess the Missing Links: All other players race to guess the missing word(s) that complete the logical or familiar phrase. In the example above, the correct answer might be “Pumpkin” to form “Pumpkin Apple Pie Spoon.”
  3. Shouting Answers: Players may shout out guesses without limit. The first player to correctly complete the chain wins the card.
  4. Confirmation: The reader checks the back of the card (or the answer side) to confirm whether the guess is correct.
  5. Scoring: The player who guessed correctly keeps the card as a point.
  6. Next Round: The player to the left becomes the next reader, and the process repeats.

Winning the Game

Once the agreed-upon number of rounds is complete or the deck runs out, the player with the most cards wins the game.

Strategy Tips

  • Think in common expressions, idioms, or logical sequences.
  • Don’t overthink—many chains are simple, familiar word combinations.
  • Speed matters. Be ready to shout out your best guess quickly.

Chainlink is a game of rapid wordplay that encourages creative thinking, vocabulary recall, and fast reactions. It’s easy to learn, quick to play, and delivers a great mix of fun and challenge for all ages.
