Setup
- Players:Â 3 or more players.
- Materials:Â A device to play songs (like a phone, tablet, or computer) and access to a music streaming service (e.g., Spotify, Apple Music). You may also need a way to write down or share song selections, like paper or a group chat.
Gameplay
- Choosing a DJ:Â Select one player to be the DJ for the first round. The DJ role rotates clockwise after each round.
- Playing a Round:The DJ selects a prompt or theme for the round. Examples might include “Best song for a road trip,” “A song that makes you dance,” or “A song that reminds you of summer.”
All other players have a set amount of time (e.g., 1-2 minutes) to choose a song that they feel best fits the prompt. They should either share their song title and artist in the group chat or write it down if playing in person.
Once all players have submitted their songs, the DJ plays a short clip (around 20-30 seconds) of each song.
After hearing all the submissions, the DJ decides which song they think best matches the prompt and declares the winner for that round.
Scoring
- The player whose song is chosen by the DJ wins the round and earns 1 point.
- Players can keep track of their points on a scoreboard, or just play for fun without keeping score.
Winning the Game
- The game can continue for a set number of rounds, or until players decide to end it. The player with the most points at the end is the winner.
- For a more casual game, players might simply take turns being the DJ, and the focus can be on enjoying the music and creativity rather than on points.
Notes/Variations
- Lightning Rounds:Â For a quick game, reduce the time allowed for song selection.
- Category Mode:Â Before starting, agree on specific categories for each round to add structure to the game.
- Party Mode:Â In large groups, split into teams, and each team submits one song per round.
Perfect for game night to build connections with adults, family, teens and all music lovers!
