Zombie Kidz Evolution is a cooperative, legacy-style board game designed for 2 to 4 players aged 7 and up. In this game, players work together to defend their school from a zombie invasion. As you play multiple sessions, the game evolves by introducing new rules, powers, and challenges through sealed envelopes that are unlocked based on your progress.

How to Play Zombie Kidz Evolution

Game Components

  • 1 double-sided game board (school layout)
  • 4 hero tokens
  • 4 plastic zombie tokens (basic set; more in envelopes)
  • 8 lock tokens
  • 13 stickers (used to track progress and upgrades)
  • 8 sealed evolution envelopes
  • 1 rulebook
  • 1 tracking sheet (with 2 sticker tracks)
  • 1 set of mission objectives
  • 1 die (white with colored faces)

Game Setup

  1. Choose the board: Use the main school layout (non-snowy side).
  2. Place zombies: Place one zombie in each of the four entryways (indicated by colored doors).
  3. Place hero pawns: Each player selects a hero token and places it in the central room (the school lobby).
  4. Place zombie tokens nearby: Keep the remaining zombies in a pool near the board.
  5. Set up the die: Place the white die near the board.
  6. Prepare lock tokens: Keep the locks nearby—you’ll use them when doors are secured.

Objective

The goal is to lock all four entryways to prevent zombies from entering the school. You win if all four locks are placed on the doors and there are no zombies in those entryways at the time.

How to Play

The game is played in turns, moving clockwise.

On Your Turn:

  1. Roll the die: The die determines where the next zombie will appear.
    • Match the die color to a door and place a zombie from the supply into the matching colored room.
    • If the supply runs out, zombies don’t spawn.
  2. Move your hero:
    • Move one room (orthogonal only, no diagonal movement).
    • You may not move into a room that has two or more zombies.
    • If a room has one zombie, you may enter.
  3. Attack zombies:
    • If you’re in a room with 1 or 2 zombies, you may remove them (put them back in the supply).
    • You must be in the same room to attack.
  4. Secure a door (lock placement):
    • If two heroes are in the same room adjacent to a door, and the door is zombie-free, you can place a lock token on that door.
    • Once a door is locked, no more zombies can enter from that color zone.

Additional Rules

  • Zombie limit: If you must place a zombie but all 4 tokens are already on the board, skip the placement.
  • Overrun rooms: A room with 2 or more zombies is blocked—heroes can’t enter it.
  • Blocked paths: If heroes get surrounded and can no longer move or defeat zombies, the game ends and the zombies win.

Winning the Game

You win as a team if:

  • All 4 doors are locked (all 4 locks are placed),
  • AND none of the locked rooms contain any zombies.

Evolving the Game (Legacy Elements)

Each time you play, you’ll mark your progress on the sticker sheet:

  • Add a brain sticker: If you played a full game (win or lose).
  • Add a trophy sticker: If you won the game.

Unlocking Envelopes:

After a set number of games and wins, you’ll be prompted to open a sealed envelope. Each envelope adds new elements to the game, such as:

  • Special powers for heroes
  • Stronger zombies
  • New rules and challenges
  • Mission objectives (mini-goals that award additional stickers)

Missions and Replayability

Once envelopes begin to unlock, you’ll be able to complete missions during gameplay. These are fun challenges that add variety and increase replay value.

Examples:

  • Win a game without defeating any zombies.
  • Win without using any powers.
  • Win three games in a row.

Completing missions earns more stickers, helping you unlock the next envelope faster.

Game End and Resetting

After a session:

  • Record progress on the tracking sheet.
  • Keep opened envelopes in the box. The game becomes permanently upgraded.
  • The game is designed for ongoing play—your heroes and the rules will change over time.

Conclusion

Zombie Kidz Evolution is a dynamic, family-friendly cooperative game that grows more complex as you play. With its legacy system, intuitive gameplay, and short 15–20 minute sessions, it’s ideal for repeat play with kids and families. As you unlock new challenges and powers, teamwork becomes more strategic—and more fun.
