How to Play Herd Mentality
Object of the Game
Be the first player to collect eight cows by matching your answers with the majority of the group. The more you think like the herd, the faster your herd grows!
Setup
- Assemble the paddock and gather all Cow Tokens and the Pink Cow.
- Place all cows inside the paddock.
- Choose a Question Wrangler — this player reads the Question Cards, hands out cows, and guides the game.
- Make sure each player has an answer sheet and pen.

Cow Tokens
- Each player can win only one cow per round.
- Use the 3-cow tokens to prevent running out of 1-cow tokens.
Gameplay
- The Question Wrangler reads a Question Card aloud.
- Each player writes down an answer in secret on their answer sheet.
- Once all players are ready, reveal answers one by one, starting with the Question Wrangler.
- If a player is taking too long, the group can “moo” to hurry them along.
The Pink Cow
- If your answer doesn’t match anyone else’s, you get the Pink Cow.
- While holding the Pink Cow, you cannot win the game, though you can continue collecting cows.
- The Pink Cow is passed when another player becomes the odd one out in a later round.
Winning Cows
- After revealing all answers, identify the most common answer.
- Players who gave the majority answer collect one cow for their herd.
- The first player to reach 8 cows wins.
Tiebreaker
- If multiple players reach 8 cows in the same round, the new target becomes 9 cows.
- Continue increasing the target until one player is one cow ahead — that player wins.

Tips for Winning
- Try to predict what the majority will answer, not what you personally think.
- Avoid overthinking; sometimes the obvious answer is the right one.
- Keep an eye on who is holding the Pink Cow—you might spot patterns to stay in the majority.
- Use humor and creativity when appropriate; Herd Mentality is as much about fun as strategy.
FAQ
3–6 players are ideal, but you can adapt for larger groups by adding extra tokens or rounds.
The Pink Cow is a penalty given to the odd one out—players whose answers don’t match anyone else’s. You cannot win while holding it.
Be the first player to collect 8 cows (or more if a tiebreaker occurs) by giving answers that match the majority.
Yes! The Question Wrangler also writes answers and collects cows like any other player.
The winning target increases by one cow each round until a player leads by one cow.
Tips and Strategies:
- Think Herd, Not Heard: While being completely unique might not always get you points, avoid overly obscure answers that no one else is likely to choose.
- Pay Attention: Observe what other players might be writing down during the reveal phase to get a sense of the popular answers. This can help you adjust your strategy in future rounds.
- Embrace the Silliness: Herd Mentality is a lighthearted party game. Don’t take it too seriously, have fun with the silly questions, and enjoy the laughter along the way!
Conclusion
Herd Mentality is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud game that challenges you to think like the group. Matching the herd is key, but the unpredictability of the Pink Cow keeps every round exciting. Whether at a party, family game night, or casual gathering, Herd Mentality guarantees fun and connection for everyone.
