Objective:

The objective of Kan Jam is to score points by throwing and deflecting discs into the goal cans. The first team to reach exactly 21 points wins the game.

Components:

  • 2 Goal Cans: Special goal cans with an open top and a slot on the front.
  • 1 Flying Disc: A frisbee-like disc used for throwing.
  • 2 Teams: Typically consisting of two players each.

Setup:

  1. Placing the Goal Cans:
    • Place the two goal cans approximately 50 feet apart from each other. This distance can be adjusted based on players’ skill levels and available space.
  2. Choosing Teams:
    • Divide players into two teams of two players each.
  3. Deciding Who Goes First:
    • Teams can decide who goes first by a coin toss, rock-paper-scissors, or any other method.

Gameplay:

  1. Starting the Game:
    • Teams stand at opposite ends of the playing area, next to their respective goal cans.
    • One player from each team starts the game by standing next to their goal can.
  2. Throwing the Disc:
    • The player throwing the disc aims to throw it towards their teammate, who then deflects it towards the goal can.
    • The thrower must stand behind the goal can and throw the disc towards the teammate, who can deflect it in any way, including hitting it with their hand, fist, or the side of their body.
  3. Scoring Points:
    • Points are scored based on how the disc enters the goal can:
      • A “Kan” is scored when the disc is thrown directly into the goal can through the front slot, without any deflection. This immediately ends the game, and the team that scores the Kan wins.
      • A “Dinger” is scored when the disc is deflected by the teammate and hits the outside of the goal can.
      • A “Deuce” is scored when the disc is deflected by the teammate and enters the goal can through the top opening.
  4. Gameplay Continues:
    • Players take turns throwing and deflecting the disc until one team reaches exactly 21 points or scores a Kan.
  5. Winning the Game:
    • The first team to reach exactly 21 points wins the game. If a team exceeds 21 points, their score is reset to 15 points, and gameplay continues until one team reaches exactly 21 points or scores a Kan.
