Official Poker Roulette Rules

Last Updated on February 12, 2026 by The Official Game Rules Team

Poker Roulette blends elements of poker with a unique matching mechanic, creating an engaging mix of luck and strategy. Players build their stockpile by matching cards while managing Jokers and special rules. The goal is to form the best five-card poker hand and outplay opponents in a final betting round.

How to Play Poker Roulette

Players

A minimum of three players is required (though two can play, it’s not recommended). The game accommodates up to five players per deck; for more than five players, additional decks are needed for every five players.

Setup & Dealing

Each player receives one face-down stock card, which they may look at but must keep hidden. The dealer then deals two face-down active cards to each player. A middle card is dealt face-up, and players then reveal their active cards to determine if they match the suit or rank of the middle card.

  • Any matching active cards (excluding Jokers) are added to the player’s stockpile.
  • Unmatched cards are discarded.

Players who matched at least one card receive two new active cards in the next round. Players who didn’t match any cards receive only one active card.

Before seeing their new active card or the next middle card, players entitled to only one active card may use a stockpile card instead (e.g., a Joker, which follows the Joker Rule below).

Gameplay

Rounds continue until the deck is depleted. If the deck runs out before all players receive their active cards, the discard pile is shuffled once and reused.

Once the first phase is complete, players attempt to form the best five-card poker hand from their stockpile. At this stage, Jokers may be removed from stockpiles.

Betting Round

A poker-style betting round follows, allowing players to bet, raise, call, or fold. Players with fewer than five stock cards may still participate in betting.

Special Card Rules

  • Suits: Suit ranking must be agreed upon before play. Unlike traditional poker, suits determine tiebreakers.
  • Card Ranking (High to Low): A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2

Matching Rules

  • Pocket Rule: If both of a player’s active cards match the middle card numerically, all three are added to the stockpile.
  • Joker Rule: If a player’s active card is a Joker, both active cards are added to the stockpile.
  • Joker Middle Rule: If the middle card is a Joker and neither active card is a Joker, both active cards are added to the stockpile.
  • Cancel Rule: If two Jokers appear in any matchup (e.g., an active card and the middle card or both active cards), both active cards are discarded.

Poker Hand Rankings (High to Low)

  1. Royal Flush (A, K, Q, J, 10 of the same suit; ties broken by suit)
  2. Straight Flush (Five consecutive cards of the same suit; ties broken by suit)
  3. Four of a Kind
  4. Full House (Three of a kind + a pair)
  5. Flush (Five cards of the same suit; ties broken by suit)
  6. Straight (Five consecutive cards; ties broken by highest suit)
  7. Three of a Kind
  8. Two Pair (Ties broken by highest suit in the higher pair)
  9. One Pair (Ties broken by highest suit in the pair)
  10. High Card (Ties broken by suit of highest card)

Hands marked with * (e.g., Four of a Kind, Two Pair) can be made with fewer than five cards but will lose ties to full five-card hands.
