How to Play Adsumudi

Overview

Find the secret math path to Adsumudi’s answer by using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with the five other numbers on each card. Be the first to solve and claim 5 cards to win!

Setup

Each player selects their own difficulty level. New players should start on easy and work their way up to medium, hard, and monstrously hard. Players in the same game can choose different difficulty levels.

Place the entire deck of cards in the center of the table to begin.

Gameplay

All players simultaneously work on the top card, trying to reach Adsumudi’s answer (the center number) using the five surrounding numbers. Each number can only be used once per equation, and players can combine them using any basic math operations.

  • Easy: Use at least two numbers.
  • Medium: Use at least three numbers.
  • Hard: Use at least four numbers.
  • Monstrously Hard: Use all five numbers.

For example, if the numbers on a card are 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, and the answer is 6:

  • Easy: 1 + 5
  • Medium: (4 × 3) ÷ 2
  • Hard: 4 + 3 – 2 + 1
  • Monstrously Hard: (2 × 5 × 3) ÷ (1 + 4)

Any solution that meets the difficulty requirements is valid, but numbers cannot be reused (e.g., 1 + 1 + 2 + 2 is not allowed).

Once a player finds a valid equation, they shout “Adsumudi!” to pause the game and prove their solution. If correct, they claim the card, and play continues with the next card. If incorrect, there’s no penalty—everyone keeps trying. If all players agree a card is too difficult, place it at the bottom of the deck and move on.

Winning

The first player to collect 5 cards wins! For a quicker game, play to 3 cards instead.

Adsumudi is a fun and challenging way to practice math while competing against others.
