Floats McGoats is a lighthearted strategy game where clever planning, a little chaos, and a lot of goats collide. After a boat capsizes in treacherous waters, players must rescue their goats by building floating rafts from scattered sticks. Outsmart your opponents, form protective triangles, and beware of the lurking shark—because on these waters, it’s every goat for itself.

How to Play FLOATS McGOATS
Objective of the Game
The goal of Floats McGoats is to score points by securing your goats inside completed triangular spaces on the raft. Only goats fully enclosed by sticks score, and the first player to reach the required point total wins.
Game Components
- 24 Mama Goats
- 4 Baby Goats
- 48 Raft Sticks
- 2 Anchor Sticks
- 1 Twelve-sided die
- 1 Shark figure
- 1 Playing board
Setup
- Unfold the board and place the two Anchor Sticks in the center, matching the printed guide.
- Create a shared pile of all remaining raft sticks.
- Place the stick pile and the shark beside the board.
- Each player chooses goats of one color.
- The first player is the youngest player.
How to Play Floats McGoats
Players take turns clockwise. On your turn, you must choose one action:
Option 1: Add a Goat
- Place one goat on any open spot along a stick.
- Only one goat may occupy each side of a stick.
- Once placed, the goat becomes a “raft goat.”
- If the goat is later removed, it returns to the player.
Option 2: Roll the Die
Roll the die and resolve the action shown. If the action cannot be completed, you must add one light stick instead.
Die Actions Explained
Add a Stick
Add one light stick to the raft. It must touch the end of another stick and follow the triangle pattern.
Add or Move a Stick
Add one light stick or move an existing light stick to a new legal position.
Warning: If moving a stick breaks the connection to the Anchor Sticks, all disconnected goats and sticks float away.
Goat Love
Move one of your raft goats onto another of your raft goats, stacking them together.
- Only your own goats may be stacked
- No more than two goats per space
- Goat Love is the only way to stack goats
Move Two Sticks
Move two different light sticks to two new positions.
- Each stick must touch another stick
- The second stick cannot move into the space created by the first
Flip a Stick
Flip a light stick to its dark side.
- Dark sticks cannot be moved again
- Dark sticks help lock in scoring goats
Shark Attack
Choose a goat or stack of goats to be attacked by the shark.
- Attacked goats return to their owner
- The shark replaces their spot
- On a later Shark Attack, you may move your goat(s) into the shark’s previous space
If your goat is the only one on the raft, it must be attacked.
Goat Fight
Swap positions with an opponent’s raft goat:
- Baby goats can only fight babies
- Mama goats can only fight mamas
- A stack of two goats can fight almost anything
- Only another stack can challenge a stack
Scoring Goats
Goats score points only when fully enclosed by three sticks, forming a triangle.
Point Values
- Mama Goat = 1 point
- Baby Goat = 2 points
- Mama + Baby = 3 points
- Mama + Mama = 2 points
If all three surrounding sticks are dark or Anchor Sticks, the goat is protected and cannot be moved or attacked.
Winning the Game
- 2 players: First to have 6 points at once wins
- 3–4 players: First to have 5 points at once wins
Tiebreaker
If multiple players reach the winning total simultaneously, continue playing until only one player has the highest score above the winning threshold.
Strategy Tips
- Early in the game, focus on getting goats onto the raft quickly.
- Use stick movement to disrupt opponents’ scoring triangles.
- Dark sticks are powerful—use them to lock in points.
- Watch the loop of connections; cutting off a section can send multiple goats drifting away.
- Save Goat Love for scoring opportunities or protection.
Tips for Beginners
- Don’t rush to score too early—unprotected triangles are easy targets.
- Keep your goats connected to the Anchor Sticks whenever possible.
- Pay attention to which sticks are light and which are dark.
- Expect chaos—Floats McGoats rewards flexibility more than long-term plans.
