How to Play The Cat Mitt Game

The Cat Mitt Game Setup

  1. Prepare the Ball and Dice
    • Open the fuzzy ball and gently insert all the dice one by one. Avoid cramming them all at once—this works better with care.
  2. Set Up the Cards
    • Shuffle the Order Cards and flip one face up in the center.
    • Give each player a Kitty Card in the color of their choice.
  3. Place the Meow Dice
    • Place the two Meow Dice (the standard six-sided dice labeled with “Meow” faces) in the middle of the play area.
  4. Distribute the Mitts
    • The oldest player puts on the Cat Mitts to begin the first round.

Objective

Your goal is to be the first player to complete the dice sequence shown on the current Order Card by collecting and placing matching dice into your Kitty Card.

Step-by-Step Gameplay

  1. Rolling the Ball
    • The player wearing the Cat Mitts begins by rolling the fuzzy ball between their paws, trying to get a die to fall out.
  2. Matching the Dice
    • When a die falls out, players may grab it and roll it.
    • If it matches one of the symbols shown on the Order Card, the player places it into their Kitty Card in the correct matching space.
  3. Meanwhile… the Meow Dice
    • The player to the right of the mitt-wearer rolls the two Meow Dice repeatedly.
    • When both dice land on “Meow,” they shout “MEOW!” and immediately take the Cat Mitts for themselves.
    • That player now rolls the ball, and the cycle continues.
  4. Ending the Round
    • As soon as a player completes the full dice pattern on the Order Card, they must shout “MEOW MEOW MEOW!” to end the round.

Scoring

  • All players earn 1 point per correctly placed die in their Kitty Card.
  • The player who completes the full sequence first also gains a bonus point listed in the top-right corner of the Order Card.

The game continues for three rounds, and the player with the most total points wins!

Optional Dice: Red and Green Chaos Cubes

For added fun and unpredictability, include the red and green dice in your play session.

Green Die: PURR Challenge

  • When the green die falls out, all players must immediately:
    • Shout “PURR PURR PURR!”
    • Scratch the table like a cat.
  • The first player to do this correctly may steal a die from another player’s Kitty Card and add it to their own.

Red Die: HISS Penalty

  • When the red die comes out, players must:
    • Shout “HISS!”
    • Raise both hands like a startled or angry cat.
  • The last player to react must take the red die and will lose 3 points at the end of the round.

Tips and Strategy

  • Getting the dice out of the ball with mitts takes a bit of practice—some use a gentle back-and-forth rhythm.
  • The Meow Dice keep things moving quickly. The mitts may change hands before you even get one die out—embrace the chaos!
  • Remember: once someone calls “MEOW MEOW MEOW,” the round is over—no final rolls allowed.

Final Thoughts – Is The Cat Mitt Game Fun?
