How to Play Cross Spin
Objective
In the Cross Spin Word Game, players race to fill in word puzzles using categories drawn from the deck. Be the fastest and most accurate to score points and win the game!
Setup
- Each player takes one marker and one puzzle booklet.
- Shuffle all Category Cards and place them face down in the center of the table.
- Keep the timer nearby for use during each round.
Cross Spin Gameplay
- Start the Round
All players open their booklets to the same numbered puzzle. One player flips over a number of Category Cards equal to the number of words in the puzzle. These cards are placed face up in the center for everyone to see. - Filling the Puzzle
Each player tries to fill in their puzzle using one answer from each of the revealed categories.- You can rotate your puzzle in any direction while writing.
- Answers can be placed in any word slot—there’s no required order.
- A completed puzzle has every space filled, forming valid words both left-to-right and top-to-bottom.
- Ending the Round
When a player finishes their puzzle, they shout out and flip the timer. Everyone else then has 20 seconds to finish as much as they can.
Once the timer runs out, all players must stop writing. If no one completes the puzzle, draw one extra Category Card and continue using all available categories. Repeat until a player completes their puzzle.
Scoring
- Starting with the player who flipped the timer, each player reads their answers aloud.
- The group decides if each answer is acceptable—vote if needed.
- If there’s a tie, the player to the left of the one being judged makes the final call.
- Players earn:
- 1 point for each valid answer that fits the chosen categories.
- 2 bonus points for completing the puzzle correctly first.
Important: If a player ends the round early by flipping the timer but one of their answers is ruled invalid, they receive –1 points for that round.
Acceptable Answers
- Plurals: Allowed only when appropriate.
- ✗ BEARS (Animal)
- ✓ BEARS (Sports Team Name)
- Multiple words: Allowed (e.g., “ORANGE” for Fruit or “WORD STARTING WITH O*).
- Duplicate words: If used for more than one category, write it twice.
- Disputes: The group vote decides. You can use the internet to verify questionable answers.
Starting the Next Round
- Discard the used Category Cards.
- All players move to the next numbered puzzle in their booklet.
- The player who flipped the timer last round draws the new Category Cards for the next round.

After each round, add your points to your total.
The first player to reach 25 points wins the game!
