Gameplay

Players take turns clockwise. On your turn:

  1. Roll the number die.
  2. Move your pawn along its color path toward the center.
  3. Resolve the space your player lands on.
  4. Pass the timer and die to the next player.

Space Types Explained

Blank Spaces – Danger Cards

When you land on a blank space, the jungle attacks.

  1. Draw a danger card and slide it under the decoder.
  2. Read the riddle aloud to reveal a secret symbol and number.
  3. Flip the timer.
  4. All other players roll their rescue dice repeatedly.
  • If all players roll the matching symbol or the hourglass before time runs out, you are rescued.
  • If any player fails, you move backward the number shown and the card is placed on the Doomsday Grid.

The Doomsday Grid

The grid tracks how much the jungle has overrun the town.

  • Cards are placed in order as failures occur.
  • If the grid fills completely, the jungle wins and all players lose.
  • The game must be restarted.

Jungle Spaces

Jungle spaces trap everyone.

  • All players roll together against the timer.
  • Failure adds cards to the Doomsday Grid.
  • Success allows all players to move forward.

These spaces can rapidly escalate danger and often determine the outcome of the game.

Rhino Spaces

Landing on a Rhino Space allows you to place the rhino in front of another pawn.

  • The blocked player cannot move until:
    • Another player relocates the rhino, or
    • The blocked player rolls an even number

If blocked and moving backward, the rhino follows.

Wait for 5 or 8 Spaces

You are being dragged deeper into the jungle.

  • Other players roll the number die one at a time.
  • If a 5 or 8 is rolled, you stop.
  • Otherwise, you move back one space per failed roll.

Movement Rules

  • Players cannot share spaces.
  • Always move the full count unless blocked or prevented from entering the center.
  • If movement is impossible, resolve the space you are currently on.

How to Win Jumanji

To win:

  • Reach the board center by exact count
  • Shout “JUMANJI!” before anyone else

Multiple players may reach the center on the same turn, but only the fastest caller wins.

Strategy Tips

  • Manage risk carefully—every failed rescue speeds up the Doomsday Grid.
  • Rhino placement is powerful for slowing leaders.
  • Jungle spaces are dangerous but can push everyone forward quickly.
  • Pay attention during other players’ turns—you might win on their move.

Tips for Beginners

  • Work together early to avoid stacking the grid.
  • Roll rescue dice quickly—hesitation costs games.
  • Keep track of how close opponents are to the center.
  • Don’t underestimate backward movement—it happens often.
