How to Play Operation


Components:

  • Game board with Cavity Sam and the various “cavity” pieces
  • Tweezers
  • Cards indicating which “cavity” to remove

Setup:

  1. Place the game board on a flat surface.
  2. Insert all the “cavity” pieces into their designated spots on Cavity Sam.
  3. Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a draw pile.

Gameplay:

  1. The youngest player goes first.
  2. The active player draws a card. This card tells them which “cavity” piece to remove.
  3. Using the tweezers, the player attempts to carefully remove the indicated piece without touching the metal sides of the opening.
  4. If the player successfully removes the piece without buzzing, they keep the piece and the card. Their turn is over.
  5. If the player touches the metal sides, the buzzer sounds, the nose lights up, and their turn is over. The “cavity” piece remains in place.
  6. The next player draws a card and takes their turn.

Winning:

The game continues until all the “cavity” pieces have been successfully removed. The player who has collected the most “cavity” pieces (and therefore the most cards) wins the game.

Variations:

  • Some versions of Operation might include special “expert” level cavities or other variations on gameplay. Consult the specific rules included with your version of the game.
