How to Play Drunk Darts

What You Need:

  • A standard dartboard and darts
  • A group of friends
  • Alcohol of your choice
  • Shot glasses or cups
  • A whiteboard or notepad (optional, for keeping score or assigning drinks)

🎯 Basic Setup

  1. Establish Drinking Zones:
Use the dartboard’s natural layout, or make your own rules. For example:
    • Bullseye: Everyone else drinks.
    • 20: Shooter assigns 2 drinks.
    • 1: Shooter drinks.
    • Miss the board: Take a shot or chug a penalty drink.
    • Triple 13: Make a rule.
  2. Decide the Turn Order:
Go clockwise around the group. Each player gets 3 darts per turn, just like traditional darts.
  3. Agree on the Game Type:
You can play classic darts games like “301” or “Cricket,” but add drinks as penalties for losing a round or missing key shots. Or, go with a party-style version:
    • Each number = different effect.
    • Set a challenge on the board: write rules next to certain numbers (e.g., “14 = Truth or Drink”).

🍻 Drinking Rules Ideas

Here are some fun and easy drink assignments by dartboard section:

  • Bullseye (Inner): Choose someone to take 2 drinks.
  • Bullseye (Outer): Give out 1 drink.
  • Any Triple: Make a new rule for the group (e.g., no saying names).
  • Any Double: Reverse the direction of play.
  • Even Numbers: You drink.
  • Odd Numbers: Assign drinks.

Feel free to get creative—this game is more about laughs than strict scoring.

Ending the Game

Set a time limit, number of rounds, or declare a “last call” when the booze is running low. You can also end the game once everyone’s had a set number of turns, or when someone hits triple 20 (and becomes the Drunk Darts Champion).

Tips & Warnings

Always have a designated dartboard area—away from glass, TVs, and bystanders.

Don’t throw darts if you’re too tipsy to aim safely.

Only play with soft-tip darts if you’re indoors and drinking heavy.
