How to Play Enchanted Forest

Contents

  • 1 Game board
  • 13 Treasure cards
  • 8 Wooden playing figures
  • 2 Dice

Objective

In Enchanted Forest, players race through a magical forest searching for hidden treasures. Your goal is to be the first to correctly identify the hiding places of five treasures and report them back to the king at the castle — all while outsmarting your opponents!

Setup

  1. Carefully punch out all cardboard pieces.
  2. Attach the 13 numbered disks to the bottom of the 13 wooden tree tokens as indicated. Make sure the disks are securely fixed.
  3. Mix the trees thoroughly by shaking them, then place each tree randomly on the blue tree spaces along the forest paths, keeping their locations secret.
  4. Each player selects a wooden playing figure and places it on the ‘start’ space at the village square.
  5. Shuffle the treasure cards and place them face down on the castle courtyard. Flip over the top card to reveal the first treasure to search for.
  6. Decide who goes first by rolling the dice.

How to Play

Players take turns clockwise. On your turn:

  • Roll both dice together but move separately according to each die’s number.
  • You can move either forward or backward, using the total number from one die in one direction and the other die in the opposite direction if you like.
  • For example, if you roll a 5 and a 3, you can move 8 spaces in one direction or 5 spaces one way and 3 spaces the other.

Landing on Special Spaces

  • Key Space:
When you land on the key space, you must try to identify the hiding place of the treasure shown on the current treasure card.
Declare your guess aloud, e.g., “The spindle is under this tree,” then lift the tree token to check.
    • If correct: Show the underside to other players, keep the treasure card as a reward, flip the next treasure card face up, and your piece stays at the castle. On your next turn, you may either try to find the next treasure or move away from the castle.
    • If incorrect: Quickly replace the tree token without revealing the underside, return your playing figure to the village’s start space, and your turn ends.
  • Blue Tree Spaces:
If you land exactly on a blue space next to a tree, you may secretly look under that tree to see what’s hidden. Keep this information to yourself!

Sending Opponents Home

If your piece lands exactly on a space occupied by an opponent, send their piece back to the village start space.

Moving to the Castle

Once you discover the hiding place of the treasure on the castle’s active card, race back to the castle.
You must land precisely on the key space to claim the treasure.
If you cannot land exactly on the key, you must move away and try again on your next turn.

Magic (Rolling Doubles)

When you roll doubles (both dice show the same number), you may perform one of the following magic actions:

  • Move your piece to any free blue tree space and look under that tree.
  • Move your piece directly to the first castle space after the stone bridge (marked with a horseshoe).
  • Shuffle the treasure cards, place them face down again, and flip over a new top card. If the same card appears, it stays on top.

Winning the Game

The first player to correctly identify and collect five treasure cards wins the game!

Tips for Playing

  • Pay close attention to other players’ moves and guesses — knowledge is power!
  • Don’t worry if you can’t find the current treasure immediately. Remember previously revealed treasures as the cards may change quickly due to magic.
  • Players may not move or swap the positions of the trees during the game.
