Official Sixes (Drinking Game) Rules

Last Updated on April 11, 2025 by The Official Game Rules Team

Sixes is a dice-based drinking game that’s all about luck, surprise, and escalating sips. All you need is one die, six drinks of increasing size (or intensity), and a group brave enough to roll with it.

A vibrant selection of cocktails garnished with flowers, ideal for party and refreshment settings.

(these drinks are way fancier than they need to be, this is just the only stock photo of different sized drinks I could find lol)

How to Play Sixes (Drinking Game)

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 six-sided die
  • 6 drinking vessels (arranged from smallest to largest — e.g., shot glass up to a small bowl)
  • 6 different drinks (can be a mix of beer, liquor, mixers, etc.)
  • 2 or more players

Setup

  1. Line Up the Cups: Arrange six cups in a row, labeled 1 through 6. The smallest goes first, and the biggest last.
  2. Fill Each Cup: Add a different drink to each. Use stronger drinks in the smaller cups (like shots) and go lighter or mixed for the bigger ones (like juice, beer, or soda).
  3. Decide Who Goes First: Choose a player to start — clockwise or rock-paper-scissors works fine.

How to Play

  1. On your turn, roll the die.
  2. Whatever number comes up, you drink from the corresponding cup.
  3. Cups are not refilled unless you want to keep the party going — or increase the challenge.
  4. Once everyone has rolled, go again!

Optional Rules to Spice It Up

  • Mystery Mix: One cup is a gross or weird combination — loser has to finish it.
  • Refill Rule: Roll a 6 twice in a row? You have to refill all the cups for the next round.
  • Double Trouble: If someone rolls the same number as the person before them, both drink that cup.

Final Tip

Keep the atmosphere fun and light — the randomness of the drinks keeps everyone guessing, and the different cup sizes make it hilariously unpredictable. It’s a great icebreaker for small parties or a funny add-on to bigger drinking game nights.

Want a more chaotic companion? Try pairing this with Paranoia or Kings Cup!
